Photography

Lex has been having a lot of fun with my camera and tripod lately. A few weeks ago he had a fashion show with his Melissa & Doug magnetic doll. Eve grabbed hers and joined in as well. These were taken over the course of a few days.

Here is a little video Alan made of Lex taking the flower photo below.

Didja miss me?

Ok, so it’s been awhile. I’d like to say that we were off doing wild and crazy things, but really life just got busy. Still is, and I seem to have less time to document it. Too busy living it. That’s not such a bad thing, for me. This one will be quick too because I’m sneaking in a quick post while the kids watch Toy Story II for a few minutes. Lex was sick yesterday and still doesn’t seem 100% today. At least he didn’t throw up today, but he is definitely low on energy. Hopefully another good night’s sleep will do the trick.

I just downloaded 75 pictures from my camera and realized that I haven’t even made a March folder yet (yes, I organize my photos by month and year). Maybe tonight I’ll get a chance to go through them and post a few updates here, but for now, here are a few flowers as we all cling to the idea that spring may, may, be approaching. Just don’t look out my window or you’ll loose all hope!

Oxsala

My oxsala is blooming again, for the first time in years! I am thrilled!

Smart boy

Lex came home with a note earlier this week that said

Your child has earned happy faces on his daily communication/behavior chart everyday or almost everyday since the beginning of the school year. Since your child is doing a great job following the school rules, I will no longer be sending a daily communication/behavior paper home.

I congratulated him on his consistent good behavior and jokingly asked “How will I know if you’re still behaving in school?” He said, “Don’t worry mom, I’ll tell you every day.” :) He’s so sweet.

Today he came home with his report card. We got his first one in the fall at his parent/teacher conference, but apparently you only get one of those each year. This report card came home in his backpack. No surprises, of course. He is at or exceeding expectations in all areas. We are very proud of him.

I asked him if I could take a picture of him to put with this post, but he refused. He said he doesn’t want me taking any more pictures of him. Hmm…. I’ve been noticing lately that I have a lot more photos of Eve than of Lex. I’ll have to secretly work on that! :)

Printer problems

A few weeks ago we decided to replace our old (old, old, old) printer with a fancy new one. It worked well for about a week, then declared itself jammed and despite our best efforts to convince it otherwise, HP ended up replacing it. The new one arrived yesterday and works like a charm, except it won’t print in color. Gah! I was mumbling and complaining just now to Lex about having to deal with HP again and figure this out (I’ve been on chat support with them now for awhile and the dude has no idea, he keeps asking where I bought the printer from!) and sweet Lex says, “We can just color it in with markers or crayons. It’s ok Mom.” Isn’t he sweet!? :)

Happy March

Happy March! We are counting down the days until Spring and Eve’s birthday. Both exciting events around here :) We have been lucky with lots of sunny days lately, but I’m very much ready for warm weather. Ready to go outside without two layers and big boots. Ready to retire the snow shovels for the season. Just plain ready.

We’ve been busy lately. I have to go get Lex at the bus stop in just a minute (early release today!), but here are a few quick pictures from the past few days…

Snowy tree

Friday's snow storm

Snowy porch

This porch was completely cleared off Thursday night... then it started snowing again.

Hugging girls

We had fun with friends this weekend. Eve and Molly (and Lex too!) play so well together.

Dinosaur game

We got out a game that we used to play long before any of us had kids. Lex really enjoyed it.

Dinner

Giggly girls at dinner

Teeth

Three in a row, brushing those pearly whites!

Sunday snow

We got more snow on Sunday. Seriously. Do you see why I'm tired of snow? The banks lining my driveway are taller than I am!

Eve painting

My friend came over the other day to take some pictures of Eve painting rocks for a story in a magazine. Eve HAPPILY obliged! She loves painting rocks :)

Eve painting her hand

Hmm... she seems to have missed the rock... time to be done painting.

I’m in a total funk these days. Not sure why. The eating is out of control, I’ve lost all motivation for WW, my to-do list just grows and grows…. sigh. I need something, just not sure what. Unfortunately the delicious Cherry Almond Scones from KAF that Eve and I made today are not it, despite the fact that I’ve eaten almost all of them! I think I need more sleep. Must work on that…

Chow for now!

Back from Doll Hospital

For Christmas, Eve got two American Girl dolls from Rosy. These were dolls that we played with when we were kids! Oldies, but goodies. They are in great condition, but a little dirty and the hair was dry and came out a lot when Eve brushed it (in her oh-so-gentle three year old way). American Girl has a cleaning and repair service they call Doll Hospital. I asked Eve if we could send the dolls to Doll Hospital for a few weeks but she said NO! A few weeks later when the dolls were a bit less novel, I wrapped them up and sent them away. I felt a bit guilty doing this while she was at school, but I’m holding strong in my opinion that sometimes Mom knows more that the preschooler, and those dolls need some TLC if they were going to last for another generation. I got lucky and she didn’t notice they were gone.

Today they came home! American Girl does a beautiful job. They came home all cleaned (with new heads, hence the shiny hair, shh!!) and dressed in hospital gowns. They even had little hospital bracelets and discharge instructions. Super cute! Eve was thrilled to see them!! :)

Happy Eve with her shiny clean dolls.

shiny hair

She loved the braids and ribbons. Hopefully they stay in for a bit because I don't think we can ever recreate that look.

in boxes

They came back tucked nicely into these boxes. Eve wants to keep them for beds.

I’m off now to wake up the poor tired girl from her nap and take her to swimming lessons.
