Two year checkup

We had a busy day with doctors this
morning. Lex went in for his two year checkup today. All is
well, of course. The doctor (a friend of a friend, small
world!!) said he is average on weight (29.5lbs) and height (I
didn’t catch the #) and advanced on verbal skills. No surprises
there. After that I went in for my six week checkup (a 7 1/2
weeks) and all is good there as well. No surprises. I won’t be
posting my height and weight here, but I’ll tell you it’s not
quite where it should be :)

Otherwise
not much to report. We’re living life and all that jazz.
Getting ready for a birthday bash this weekend. And Lex just
woke up from his nap so I’m outta here!

Busy two years

Yesterday, well two days ago now, I guess,
was the anniversary of Lex’s due date. Sort of a random thing
to remember, but it popped into my head that morning and I
couldn’t get it out. It’s amazing how much as happened in the
past two years. Just two years ago we were living in our
apartment, no kids, no job, and basically just hanging out
waiting on Lex. Now, just two years later, we have a house, two
kids, a fantastic job and life is so different. We spent so
much time on that business and it’s depressing what happened to
it, but I feel like it really put our personal life on hold and
I’m so happy with the progress we’ve made since then.

On the kid front, Eve is soooo smiley lately.
Especially at 3am :) She is also very strong. She was standing
up today (with some balancing help from me) and Lex was holding
her hands and they were dancing. So cute! Lex loves his little
sister but has done some interesting regressing since she’s
been born, most notably he refuses to sleep in his bed now.
Every nap and night he asks for his crib. He’s funny because he
usually ends up crying when we put him down and he knows how to
get out of his crib (though he hasn’t perfected the landing
yet!) but he rarely does. Instead he’ll cry, jump around, kick
the bars, and eventually fall asleep. He’s funny. We have to
get him out of the crib soon, though, because Eve will be
needing it. I knew that “big boy bed” transition was too easy
:)

Ok, back to bed for me. I have been
coughing so much all day and night that no one has been getting
much sleep. Hopefully this passes soon!

Good morning

Fresh from the bath (hence the hat), Eve settles
in for a morning nap. Or not! Moments after I took the picture
Lex decided to “visit” and that was the end of that :)

Lex has decided that the best seat in the house
for TV viewing is the stool on the hearth. Maybe looking
through the plant foliage somehow enhances the TV watching
experience??

Siblings

Lex and Eve were on the same wavelength
all weekend… unfortunately it was the cranky one! Alan kept
saying, “they’re definitely siblings!”

Crazy man coloring with
markers

On the bright side
though, we finally got the whole yard raked!! I know, most
people do that in the fall, but we’re new here and have kids
and and and …. don’t judge me!! :) Just kidding. The back
yard was a huge mess of pine needles and garbage. Yep, garbage!
We found beer bottles, a water bottle holder for a bike, a bike
lock, a door jam, and so much more. Now all of that is gone and
we just have a big dirt spot in the back yard. Sooo much nicer
though :) Next step is to get some grass growing and then we’ll
be all set.

The veggie
garden

Speaking of grass,
Alan bought a lawn mower (electric, he’s very excited) and so
we’ll be mowing the lawn this week too. Oh the exiting news
from my house, huh?? It will be good to mow it, but I’ll kind
of miss the lovely purple and white violets and yellow
dandelions we currently have growing. Our front yard is quite
nice these days.

Our
house

After we get the
lawn under control, the next step is weeding and figuring out
the flower gardens. We are very lucky that the previous owners
planted such nice gardens and hopefully we’ll be able to keep
the alive.

Playing with the
neighbors (sorry you can’t see their
faces)

Have I mentioned
lately that I love our house??

PS. I added another video to YouTube. Look over
at the sidebar and click on the top video. Alan took it when
his parents and their friend Linda where here last weekend.
Nothing exciting, just cute.

Uncle Barney’s shower?

Lex was playing in our downstairs shower
today (the one we keep the laundry baskets in :) ) A usual, he
was talking the whole time and the conversation went something
like:

LEX: “Want to get in
shower. Lex in shower. Sit in theshower. (meanwhile he has
tucked himself into the tub, under our laundry baskets) Lex in
the shower. Uncle Barney’s shower. Lex in Uncle Barney’s
shower.”

ME: “Uncle Barney’s
shower?”

LEX: “Yeah, Uncle Barney’s
shower!”

ME: “Ok”

LEX: (very serious and shaking his head) “That’s not Uncle
Barney’s shower. (happy again) That’s Lex’s shower!”

Where do kids come up with this
stuff? It’s been awhile since we’ve talked about B (shhhh….
don’t tell) and even longer since he’s showered here. Lex
cracks me up.

Out of the crib

For a long time now Lex has had the
ability to get out of his crib, but never had the inclination.
Tonight, after we’d all been asleep for awhile, he suddenly
started wailing (he does this sometimes, he doesn’t sleep well
these days). Alan went in to check on him and found him in the
middle of the room, crying and saying “hurt self, hurt self.” I
think he somehow managed to fall out of his crib! Alan says
he’s not sure Lex was even awake. We shall see if he remembers
this trick in the morning. (Why was he in his crib, you ask?
Well, he seems to be regressing a bit and tends to request his
crib instead of his bed lately.)

On the
other front, Eve has started smiling a lot. Social smiling.
It’s adorable. I’ll try to get a picture sometime (I’m not so
good with the pictures lately). Today I also saw her kicking at
the toys on the bouncy seat. Kicking the toys makes the music
play. It’s hard to tell, but she seemed to be doing it
intentionally and was smiling when the music played.

What a day!

We spent the afternoon outside today. It
was beautiful. We went out to plant veggies in the garden and
our neighbors (daddy and 2yr old) came to help and another
neighbor (8yr old) also came to help. It was so fun. I dug
little trenches and they planted the seeds. Then the 8yr old
watered the garden and the little boys got their little rakes
and we raked the back yard for awhile. Our yard is full of pine
needles and leaves from last fall. The daddy also did some
raking, which was the most real help of the afternoon! The
three boys played together and had a great time. Eve wasn’t
sleeping very soundly and kept fussing, but around 5pm Jan, our
Good Beginnings volunteer, showed up and held Eve so I could do
some raking as well. It was a beautiful afternoon! I love our
house and our neighborhood.
