Superstitious

It’s a good thing I’m not superstitious! There is a black cat in the neighborhood that regularly crosses my path while I’m out running or driving. Maybe not the smartest cat. And the other day I let the kids do this. :)

Sorry for the sideways video again. Someday I’ll figure out how to rotate video!

Last day of swim lessons

We survived our busy week! Pancakes for dinner and an empty weekend ahead. Yay!

This week Lex worked on side breathing with his crawl stroke. He also learned the breast stroke. They both practiced diving off the side and Lex learned something along the lines of race diving. Kind of diving in at an angle. It’s cool.

On the last day of swim lessons the kids get a chance to jump off the diving board if they want to. Lex has yet to try, but Eve gave it a shot this past spring and she decided to do it again this time. Lex chose not to again. I signed them both up for lessons again next spring, at the same level. When they came up with their report cards though Lex surprised me by moving up a level! He was super excited! I’m so happy for them both.

There’s a long line at the diving board. Most of them are lined up for the low board, not the high board!

in the pool

Last year Lex’s teacher ended his lesson when the kids lined up for the diving board, but this year’s teacher kept in the pool until the end. I appreciated that. He kept swimming and they played a silly game while the other kids went off the diving board. He was almost the last kid out of the pool.

Eve Quotes

“I can see Virginia with these spectacles on,” said Eve, quite randomly, as we were walking down the street.

Me: “We survived our crazy busy week!”
Eve: “Of course we did! We had air and water and food. That’s all we need!”
(I personally would add a few other items to the “basics” list, like clothes, shelter, and family.)

Pausing mid-story Eve says: “What are those trucks with the hole in the back?”
Me: “Uhh….”
Lex: “Do you mean pick-up trucks?”
Eve: “Oh yes, pick-up trucks!” and she continues on with her story.
That’s what siblings are for!

We are dragging!

I am so tired.  We are so NOT the overscheduled family so when we get a week like this it takes its toll.  Right now it’s 6:30am and the kids are sleeping and I am blogging.  We are off to a slow start.  Yesterday went fairly well.  We did the bike/walk to school thing and Eve walked with a friend. Lex still wanted to stay at the checkpoint with me, but I got him to school just in time.  Then I made it to WW, work, a volunteer meeting, and the market.  Home to get the kids.  Then we ended our day with swim lessons and a PTO meeting.  My first.  It was packed.  Maybe because it was the first of the year? There were lots of K parents!  The kids did great!  Alan came to pick them up after work but they were having fun with the childcare people in the library so he joined me at the meeting instead. I was pushing my luck going to the meeting, but it went well.  Hopefully today does to!

The one over-tired consequence of yesterday was that Lex got frustrated with an assignment at school and ended up under his desk in tears. His teacher emailed me during the day and Lex and I discussed it after school. He has a plan for today so hopefully he can me more successful on this final day of this busy week.  Slowing down next week!
