Lex came into my classroom this afternoon looking a little peaked. I asked how he was doing and he said fine. His usual answer. I told him he didn’t look fine, and he said he was fine except for how his body felt. Poor guy. He clearly had a fever. I made him rest in the library while I went to a (interesting, but sad) parent meeting. When I got done (I only stayed for half an hour), I found him wandering around the library with his arms pulled into his shirt, shivering. We headed home. He perked up a bit over snack and spent most of the afternoon sitting at the table reading Calvin and Hobbes comics to me. After shower he snuggled with Alan and they watched a show. By the end he was clearly feverish again and barely moving. We gave him some Tylenol and put him to bed. If he’s still sick in the morning Alan is going to work from home, which is great, but really I want to be the one home with my sick boy. Is that selfish? I want to cuddle him and feel his forehead and make sure the world is gentle for him. Alan will do fine, I have no doubt, but I want to be there. Sigh. Just a minor downside to being a working mom. However, we are fortunate that the working dad has such a flexible schedule!

What’s going on…
Here’s a quick look at what’s going on in our world. What I’ve taken pictures of, at least!
Spelling
Lex started getting a weekly spelling list a few weeks ago. Eve was eager to help him practice.

Wiggle wiggle
Eve has a loose tooth! Her very first one. She’s pretty excited about and and keeps telling me about how it feels. Often starting with, “I don’t know if this is usual or not, but…” then onto her story. She is an awesome child. She also has four molars coming in all at once. There’s a lot going on in that mouth of hers.
I wonder if that explains the fevers, headaches, and earaches from a few weekends ago…
Riding in style!
The big day finally arrived! Big day in this house anyway, probably no one else cares. For awhile now I’ve known that I had to move the kids, Lex primarily, out of the 5pt harness car seats and into standard booster seats. The big black seats we have were supposed to convert, but when I tried to use them with the shoulder belt I discovered they were damn near impossible to buckle in. There was no way the kids would be able to do it. So we sprung for new boosters, just like what we have in Alan’s car. The kids are pretty excited. They were getting too big for the 5pt harness, especially with winter coats on. When I pulled out the manual to make sure I converted the big black seats properly, I discovered that I should have switched Lex about 15lbs ago. I thought the 5pt harness was safest, but according to the manual he was too heavy for it. Glad we didn’t have an accident.
Now they are in boosters in both cars and pretty darn happy about it. We brought a friend home after school and I was able to fit three across in the back seat. Oh, the social opportunities we’ll have now!
This is just a sweet picture from after school today. Unrelated to car seats. :)
