Today

We had a nice day today. Started with surprise candy in the advent boxes (gold coins) and then we played and exercised and played and napped and decorated and had a nice day. Here are a few pictures for you :)

the mayflower

Lex apparently learned about The Mayflower in school. Although he didn't learn quite enough because he told me today it was the ship that brought the Indians to England... good thing he still has a few more years of education to complete :)

me

I wanted a picture of Eve and I wearing Santa hats, but she refused (see more below) so Lex took a nice picture of just me :)

christmas lights

We went on a Christmas light walk tonight. The kids wanted to see our window lights from the outside, then we kept walking. This picture is my neighbor's house.

Eve seems to have developed a case of camera shyness lately. When she does sit for a picture it’s usually a pretty forced smile, but most of my pictures of her these days look like this:

Tomorrow we get the Christmas tree! I’m so excited! Have I mentioned that I love Christmas!??! :)

Crazy Eve

This is what I’m dealing with these days:

“I want to be a toy when I grow up. And have a pumpkin head. And you can make me into a shoe.”

She tells me this out of the blue at lunch today. She’s so crazy! I babied the heck out of her today and she LOVED it! I had her laying on a blanket on the kitchen floor while I made lunch. She kicked her legs and cooed. I gave her a chew toy and a rattle. When she rolled over I gave her big hugs and cheers and encouragement. She basked in the baby love :)

Baby my baby

Eve has been driving me crazy lately with her baby behavior. Lots of baby talk, grunting, and lazing around. I’ve been getting more and more frustrated with her because she won’t do anything for herself. She used to dress herself, brush her teeth, get stuff, etc. I found myself yelling at her last night because she wouldn’t put her pjs on or brush her teeth. I was remembering how Lex was at three: stubborn. The difference is he would argue and fight, while she just lays around and doesn’t do it. I find myself nagging and nagging and nagging and then yelling. Ugh. After they were in bed I was venting to Alan a bit and asking if I was unrealistic in expecting her to dress herself. He reminded me that she can, in fact, dress herself, and pick out her clothes, and brush her teeth, but just doesn’t want to lately. Smart Alan pointed out that I can continue to force the issue and she will eventually come around, or I can humor her and dress her. Hmm… since we know she CAN do it herself, is it necessary to make her? Anything wrong with taking one minute to dress her and have a nice night instead of twenty minutes to fuss with her?

That said, my new plan is to baby my baby. If she wants me to dress her, I will. I’ll dress her and carry her and feed her (sometimes) and cuddle her and love her as long as she will let me. I know the day will come when she no longer wants my help. So for now, I’ll baby my baby!

And speaking of babies, we had a really fun playdate this morning with Elizabeth and Alistair and another woman who has a 3yr old son and a 7wk old son. Eve and the 3yr old play really, really well together and baby and I cuddled really well together too :) Eve was actually super excited to see the baby. She rubbed his head and was thrilled when he squeezed her finger. It was cute. I loved holding him. Then he started crying and I gave him back! :)

Crash helmet

Doesn't she look like she needs some babying? :)

Roar!

Eve found this old lion costume in the dress up box and wore it for awhile yesterday and then all morning today. She is so cute in it!

Remember when we got the costume last year?

Soup or lettuce?

“What should I have for lunch today,” I wondered aloud this afternoon. Eve replied with, “You can have whatever you choose. Your choices are soup… or lettuce…. That’s it, those are your choices.” I had a good hearty laugh for lunch! Apparently she’s on to my weight watching ways. :)

My little girl

Where did my baby go? Who is this girl in this big bed? She sleeps with a doggie, much like the baby did, but suddenly she’s huge! She wears 4T clothes and ponytails, can reach from one end of the bathtub to the other, and insists on privacy in the bathroom (for her, none for me!). Happily she still naps, when I let her, but what happened to my baby? Where did she go?

Self portrait

I love Eve’s self portraits. She draws herself a lot lately. And writes her name everywhere. She doesn’t have arms in most of her pictures, but she always tells me about her smile and why it looks like it does. Sometimes it’s big, or small, or not a smile. I love it.

This is just a fun picture from this morning. Lex was giving Eve (in her booster seat) a hug goodbye before we left for school. I tried to take a picture and they both turned around. :)

The very best birthday card ever

Happy Birthday To You Mom

Happy Birthday To You Mom

Eve Love

Eve Love

She made the card all by herself. She wanted to buy me one at the grocery store the other day and got mad at me because I wouldn’t let her :) So she decided to make me one instead. She knew exactly what she wanted it to say and I only had to help her a little bit with the spelling. Then she added a cake (with candles all around it) and ice cream on the front, and a picture of herself on the back. “This is when I was a baby,” she said, “so I only had one hair.” :) Happy (early) Birthday to me!

God songs

Eve came down from nap today and told me that she was singing God songs to puppy.  After nap she often likes to hang out in her room for a bit, on the days I don’t have to wake her up to rush out the door!  She sat on the floor and asked if I wanted her to sing to me.  Heck yeah!  So she sang, “The Lord can hear the cries of the poor.”  That’s the only line she knows so she sang it a few times before announcing, “That’s from Mema’s church!!”  :)  I love her singing voice.  Maybe I need to get her to church more often.

Let the sugar parade begin…

Eve’s class did a Halloween parade at school today.  The class is held at a high school so they went trick-or-treating around the school.  I thought it was cute idea and figured she would come home with a few pieces of candy, but she got a ton!  I was shocked!  She got more candy on this parade then she got trick-or-treating last year… and both kids shared that!  It occurred to me that her pumpkin is already half full (like the “pumpkins” we made for trick-or-treating?) and she will still be getting candy at Alan’s office party tomorrow, on the haunted train ride on Saturday, and THEN trick-or-treating on Sunday!  Oof!
