Pears for breakfast

And boy did he like them!
Just kidding :) I think the photos tell the real story. He ate
the whole bowl though, so they must not be that bad :) Feeding
is getting more adventurous now that Lex has perfected the
raspberry. There’s nothing like a pear shower to start the
morning off right.

We also figured out
(well, Alan figured out) that he likes everything a little more
when it’s warm. Alan started heating up the avocado and Lex
seems to like that a bit better. Still not as much as he likes
the bananas and oatmeal, but can you blame him??

We’re going to do sweet potatoes next. We are
operating under the recomendations of the pedi and the Super
Baby Food
book. They recommend holding off on veggies
(besides sweet potatoes) until at least 7 months, but I don’t
really like that idea. We may start him on carrots or peas
after the sweet potatoes. We’ll see.

Fun with food

I’m going to have to get some eating
pictures soon. We’re having a great time with it. Tonight we
had salad with avocados in it (yummy, we always have avocado in
the salad). Lex sat next to me making hungry mouth faces at me,
so I gave him a piece of avocado. He still doesn’t like it :)
He gummed it for a second or two then made a face and spit it
out. Then played with it for awhile. I threw him in the bath
before bed to get the avocado out from between his fingers and
the banana out of his hair – must have been a good
lunch!

The word of the day…

… is avocado! Lex didn’t think much of
it though. He took right to the cereal and bananas (who
wouldn’t!) but made funny faces today at the avocado. Very cute
faces to be honest. I gave him some in the morning and some in
the evening. Both times he ate 4 or 5 spoons of it, but made
funny, sputtery faces. He’s also been perfecting his raspberry
noises this past week, so picture that face and sputtery
sounds, with green avocado everywhere :) Good times, good
times.

Otherwise a pretty mellow
weekend. Lex has been talking a lot lately. He’s working on his
babababa sounds and mamamama sounds. Tonight he was so tired
and just looked at me with big tired eyes and said mama mama
mama… so, of course, I had to go pick him up and cuddle him.
He was hanging in his jumper and patiently waiting for me to
finish cutting Alan’s hair before putting him to bed. Such a
good baby.

I ordered a booster seat type
thing for Thanksgiving. I’m excited to have him sit at the
table with us :) We’re having two t-days this year too, one
with each side of the family. Now that Lex is eating some
solids I’m excited to have him sit with us and play with some
food. I also ordered a cool rolling toy that supposed to
encourage crawling. Its sort of dumbell shaped with lights and
mirrors and stuff, and it rolls around the floor. I thought it
looked like a pretty cool toy. I was thinking of getting him
one for Christmas, but I don’t think I’m going to be able to
hide it that long. Once it comes I think I’ll be too eager to
get it out and play with it :)

Bananas!

Lex got his third new food this morning.
You guessed it – bananas! He seemed to enjoy it quite a bit.
He’s now eating rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, and bananas. I
haven’t been able to pump as much milk lately as I used to, so
he’s rapidly depleting what’s in the freezer. Alan and I
decided it would be good to officially start him on solids (1
new food every 4 days). Today was bananas. Not sure what will
be next – maybe avacados (they are super healthy for babies).
We’ll see. I’ll keep ya posted.

Not much

Not much to say, just wanted
to post a few pictures of the boy. First one his my little guy
on the go in his “little guy on the go” overalls. He’s a cutie
in overalls. Next is Lex with his new football from Joan. He
likes that toy and I like the picture. Next is him playing with
Nana Pat’s birthday present. They both had a lot of fun with it
(heck, we all did!). And then its Lex with his very own
keyboard. He loves playing with our keyboards (those of you who
receive very strange IM messages are often the receipent of his
keyboard adventures) but it’s always a little risky because he
opens and closes things, deletes things, and drools on the
computer :) So Alan made him a keyboard of his own.

I was thinking of other things to write about
throughout the day, but now I’m tired so this is all you get.
They say that a picture speaks a thousand words anyway, so five
pictures have got to be better than any rambling words I would
write.

A good day was had by all

Lex and I had a very busy day
today. First we picked up lunch (yummy Panera Bread) and went
to visit a friend of mine who had a baby 3 weeks ago. Her baby,
Emily, is sooo tiny – she weighs just 7lbs. I was saying that
it’s hard to remember when Lex was that small, then I realized
that he was still in me when he was that small!! He was was an
extra 9oz before we got to hold him. Mommy and baby are both
doing well though and we had a nice visit. Lex got a little
fussy towards the end, but it was definitely nap time. So I
popped him back in the car and prayed he took a good nap since
I had to do a bunch of shopping for the rest of the day. He
slept well and was a perfect angel while I shopped. He was
awake the whole time, just looking around and checking things
out. About half way through the shopping I stopped at Borders
and cozied into a big chair in the children’s section and
nursed him. Then we read “The Witch With A Twitch” because I
had been staring at it for so long I just had to read the story
:) When we got home Lex got fussy, but went right to sleep.

I posted a whole bunch of photos to
photos.datdec.com. I didn’t realize
how far behind I was. I posted pictures all the way back to
when he was just 2 months old. I have one more month to post to
bring me up to date, and I’ll try and get that done tomorrow.
It’s fun to look back at the older photos. Makes me long for
summer again. I also never realized quite how many sleeping
pictures we took :) Or quite how much dark hair he had! Yes, I
like to reminisce about last month :)

Now it’s time for me to go to sleep.

5 months old!!

Those are his thoughts
on the matter. Yay baby!

Typing with lex is tough because he really likes
those non-letter keys (windows, alt, ctrl, etc.) He also tends
to close windows, open programs, open IM windows, and turn on
random features I’ve never heard of before (Caret Browsing
anyone??)

Totally random thought

I was thinking today (while
pumping at work) about this article I read awhile ago. A woman
wrote that her 4-month old daughter had come to know the
“nursing position” and would calm down as soon as she started
getting settled in for nursing. Lex, on the other hand, gets
all worked up when we’re getting into position. He crunches his
stomach, pulls his legs up, pulls his head up, pulls on my
shirt… like he’s trying to take care of things himself. Then
his head gets going and he makes little snorting piggy noises.
It’s hysterical and adorable and completely unhelpful. :)
Remember that Cosby episode where Mr. Cosby takes Rudy and some
other kids out to dinner at a nice restaurant? He goes through
a series of rules with them and they end up chanting “no mad
dogs when the bread comes.” My Lex is a mad dog with the boob
comes :) Like I said, a totally random thought. And two photos
to accompany the thought. These photos are from dinnertime
tonight – hot off the presses! You don’t get that too
often.

World’s happiest baby

I think we have the world’s happiest baby.
We had a great weekend and Lex travelled so well. We spent
Saturday visiting friends from our childbirth class (I think I
mentioned that already) then headed over to Jim and Julie’s.
Lex napped in the car and was very social visiting everyone. On
Sunday we went to the mall for a few hours and Lex was great.
He sat in his stroller looking around and chewing on his new
doggy toy (thanks Grandma Meem!!) He was also adorable napping
in his car seat with his arm cuddling the musical dog :) In the
mall I was noticing the other babies kind of lying in their
strollers and zoning out while Lex was sitting upright looking
around, playing with his toy and chewing on his stroller. He’s
such a fun baby! After shopping we went to the Johnson’s for
dinner. He took a nap and got a little fussy there (I think he
was too cold) then nursed like a champ and slept the whole way
home. Saturday and Sunday nights were also the first ones he’s
slept through without the fan for white noise. He’s such a good
baby!! I get so happy just thinking about him :) This morning
Alan dressed him in overalls and a thermal, long sleeve onsie –
both too big for him, but he looked adorable with his cuffs and
sleeves rolled up. :) Sigh… back to work now…

Rainy Sunday

It’s raining this morning and
I can’t remember the last time I’ve heard rain beating down on
the roof. I guess it must have been in Syracuse when we last
were directly under a roof. It’s a great sound.

Yesterday was a good time. We stopped to visit
a couple who was in our childbirth class. Their son is a few
weeks younger than Lex. I am excited to introduce Lex to other
babies. They sort of played together, but not quite. Lex was
happy in his own little world and Des just looked very dubious
at this other child playing with his toys. Lex drooled on
everything and we were joking that he was trying to mark his
territory and claim the new toys. Des’s mom, like many new
moms, is struggling to maintian her career and still be with
the baby. It’s a pretty amazing struggle. Last night I was
talking to Julie about that and she said that there are two
women in her office that do the job sharing thing and its
apparently working remarkably well for them. There are so few
offices that would even be open to that.

Now Lex and I are up playing (and bloggin) while the rest
of the house is quiet. Today we’re off to do some shopping at
Target (wish we had one near us) and dinner at the in-laws.
Apparently its going to be quite the crowd. First clam chowder
of the season is a big event, I guess :)
