I went shopping this afternoon (so cool
’cause these days I never get to go shopping by myself!) and
here’s what I came home to. :)
Heat, tours, and a new baby
After three days of running a space heater
in our knee wall (and no house fires, yay!!) the plastic pipes
finally defrosted and the water started circulating again. Yay!
Tonight we will sleep in toasty comfort… and everyone in
their own bed. Yay! ;)
On an unrelated
note, I took Lex on a tour of the Birthing Pavilion (at the
hospital) today. We went with our friends Michelle and Dylan
(she is due in August, but hadn’t been to the BP before) and
happened to meet another woman (due next week) that I know from
playgroups. Her daughter is two and a half and totally into the
baby thing. She is excited about the baby, asking all sorts of
questions, and was really into the tour. Lex was totally
indifferent. They even showed us a brand new pink squirmy baby
and Lex looked at him then turned to me and asked for another
biscuit. We could have been touring a museum or construction
site and it would have made no difference to him. Actually, I
take that back, I suspect he would have been much more
interested at a construction site! Oh well. At least next time
we go (in labor) he’ll at least have seen the place.
And congrats to Jim & Julie. They became
Uncle Jim & Aunt Julie yesterday when his sister-in-law
delivered a little girl (on her due date!). I’m told all are
doing well.
Ready
I know it doesn’t matter one bit, but I’m
ready for baby now. I’m officially big enough, waddling enough,
tired enough, and sore enough for this pregnancy. And I
finished the baby laundry! This weekend we’ll put the car seat
in the car to let Lex adjust to having someone else back there
with him… though it will probably be Elmo or Jesse Bear for
the next few weeks. And then we wait, and wait, and wait some
more. C’mon baby!
Fun with crayons
Dylan came over to play this morning while his
mommy got her ultrasound. He and Lex played with the blocks and
watched tv and colored with crayons. Then they both went crazy
around lunchtime. Nothing like a few overtired toddlers! :)
I think this video is cute. Lex is
saying “Thank you” as he hands Dylan the crayons. They did this
7 or 8 times, but I only got the last two times on video. Oh
well.

Hungry boy (and heat update)
He sure does like his cottage cheese! He
ate everything I fed him for dinner tonight and asked for
seconds on the cottage cheese… then ate it with his spoon and
fork at the same time. Guess he was hungry!

Quick update on the heat… turns
out our “pipes” (plastic tubing) in the upstairs zone are
frozen. My dad is so smart, he told us to check that and he was
right! The installer guys ran them through the knee wall
upstairs and I guess there isn’t enough insulation up there for
that… or else they put them in a less insulated part or
something. I’m not the expert here. So we are defrosting them
now (luckily they are plastic and there is no worry about
bursting) and we’ll get them better insulated tomorrow. And
then the weather will warm up anyway and all will be
good.
Family bed in a cold house
After lots of time and money trying to get
our new heating system in place, it was finally operational and
working well last month. Sadly, yesterday our upstairs zone
stopped working for some reason. It got quite chilly! Lex fell
asleep in the car on our way home from shopping yesterday, so
when I put him down I still had my coat on and didn’t notice
quite how cold it was. He woke up awhile later crying and I
realized it was only 54 in his room. I brought him downstairs
and we sat in the rocking recliner for a few minutes and he
fell asleep on my lap. So I grabbed a blanket, kicked back the
recliner, and finished his nap with him :) It was sweet. Last
night we bundled him up and put him to bed, but his room was so
chilly when we checked on him that we decided to bring him to
bed with us instead. We had extra blankets and a space heater
in our room. Alan always wants to scoop Lex up and cuddle him,
so he was happy to bring him to bed with us :) The main
drawback is that Lex tends to wake up early and talk to himself
(5:00am today). Usually I turn the monitor off or down and get
up at a more reasonable hour (6:00-6:30am), but with him right
next to me in the bed that was a little more difficult. We
stayed in bed until 6:00am, but he was wide awake reciting
books (Dr. Seuss is a favorite) and I pretended to sleep.
Alan called Sears last night when he
got home and was politely told that there is nothing they can
do after hours. Which sucks!! I guess we are lucky it was only
the upstairs zone, not the downstairs or the whole thing.
Especially because it’s been well below 0 for the past few
nights. Alan is going to call them again this morning and
hopefully they will come out ASAP today. Otherwise naptime
today should be interesting… I’ll keep you posted!
New couch!!

We bought a new couch and coffee table and end
tables!! I’m so excited. We are like grown-ups now with real
furniture instead of college stuff. We also got a new mattress
today and I’m really looking forward to a good night’s sleep!
Our old one was broken and pretty crappy. Alan’s parents came
up with the new mattress and helped pick up the couch with
their truck.
Check out the video down
the side of Lex jumping on the couch. (You can ignore the loud
discussion on global warming, or something, in the
background.)
Run run little man
Lex made a huge mess at dinner tonight
(dumped yogurt all over himself) so we had to strip him down.
He had a blast being nearly naked for a few minutes. He’s
saying “babalooo” when he’s patting his belly and
running.

PS. I think I like YouTube! Hopefully it’s
working for all (or at least most) of you
:)
Self-portraits @ 36 weeks
Video
Lex likes to sit on a little train bookshelf
that Aunt Betty made for him and read stories. Here is a
picture and a short movie from tonight. I have to figure out
how to adjust my camera settings though, because the movies are
all in the highest quality and usually too big to upload. I
have a better one of him reading a whole book (just a minute
long), but it’s too big to post :/ Time to learn something new
about my camera. :)
