Happy 4 months, ERJ!!!

1/3 of one year old. Quite an
accomplishment for one so young. As she lays there, late
tonight, dosing contently while nursing, face and arms all
covered with waffle marks from the blanket she has been
sleeping on for the last hour or so, I look at her and my heart
melts at the most beautiful site I have ever seen: the most
beautiful site I will ever see. Thank you Tessa, God, and the
Universe, for this ultimate joy.

Roll over

Eve rolled over for us today! Lex was
reading her a story and over she went (see movie). She almost
rolled just before that, but Lex tackled her just before she
completed the roll. She was nice enough to repeat the event for
Alan at lunch time :)

There are two other movies in the side bar there, one of
her almost rolling and Lex tackling her, and the other after
the roll. Lex was reading her a book and I wanted her to roll
over again, instead she just got cranky and started crying. Lex
tries so hard to soothe and entertain her :)

Happy 4th of July!

We started the day with a beautiful, sunny
morning. Alan is home and we all went outside to mow the lawn,
move car seats, and just hang out. I love vacation! Now the
kids are both sleeping and we have a lot of packing to do!! So,
I decided to post a few pictures here :) Great logic, huh?
Procrastination is my specialty.

Also a few milestone updates… Though still not
ready for potty training, Lex has made a big step in the right
direction. Just in the past few days he has really become aware
of conditions in his diaper. Instead of fighting the diaper
changes, he now (usually) tells me has a poopy diaper and then
climbs up onto the changing table and waits for me to change
him. Today he even asked for Desitin , which he needed, and
after I put the Desitin and clean diaper on, he kept telling me
he had poop in his diaper. I imagine they feel similar —
squishy and not-quite-right. Anyway, TMI for most of you, I’m
sure, but a positive sign for me :)

Eve, on the other hand, has started laughing and
grabbing things. She likes her bibs and the dress she is
wearing today. She also likes to hold my hand or arm when I’m
changing her. It’s so sweet! I read recently that by 3 months
babies are starting to sit up on their own. Not stably and
consistently, but starting to. I realized that I never really
tried sitting Eve up, so I gave it a shot and she promptly spit
up everywhere :) Oh well. She also doesn’t get long stretches
of tummy-time because that too makes her spit up. I think we
need to hold off working her too hard until she gets better
control of that esophagus! She is oh so sweet though. :)

Three months

Happy 3 months to Eve! She is such a
beautiful girl, smart and strong and very chatty. She talks and
giggles a little and sometimes even makes herself laugh,
telling jokes that only she can understand :) She is starting
to reach for things and trying to roll, but not quite there
yet. She has great head control and can do little baby push-ups
when she’s on her belly (which doesn’t last long because she
usually spits up a lot during tummy time). She sleeps through
the night about 80% of the time and takes nice long afternoon
naps. We are so very lucky to have her!

All nighter

On a happier sleep note, Eve gave us her
first all nighter last night. She slept from 9pm to 6am. It was
great. She probably would have slept from 8pm on if we had put
her upstairs sooner. She typically sleeps on the couch until we
go to bed, but we were watching an action flick and she was
having trouble falling asleep. After a bit we figured out it
was the movie keeping her up, so we put her upstairs in the
cradle and she was out like a light. Believe it or not I
actually started this day fairly rested!

May photos

Now that we are almost half way through
June, I figured it would be good to get the photos from May up.
Someday I’ll start updating the photos.datdec.com site. For
now, just click on the link below.

May
2007

Life is pretty busy around here and I’m pretty
much always exhausted. Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I’m
sure we’ll get back into the swing of things someday and I’ll
start posting more frequently.

I’ve
actually been meaning to document Eve’s latest development. You
know what they say about the second child’s sparse baby book. I
see that’s going to apply here as well. Anyway, she is so alert
and happy these days. She has pretty good head control and can
pick it up and look around when she’s lying on her belly. She
has started to kick the bars on the butterfly mat to make the
toys move. That’s always a favorite for the babies. She also
smiles and goos and coos. We have sweet conversations on the
changing table. :) She’s working her way into 3-6mo clothes and
I’m sadly starting to pack up the newborn stuff again. Sigh.
But I’m also getting more sleep, so that’s a nice trade off.
We’ve taken to calling her the Fountain of Eve because she is
forever spitting up. She’ll give you a nice big smile and
then… look out! Then she grins while you try to clean up her
and yourself and the floor and everything else around :) She’s
a funny girl :) So sweet and calm too, which is very fortunate
as I spend lots of time these days dealing with toddler-Lex….
also very sweet, but in a wild-man sort of way! ;) I have the
best kids!

Out of the crib

For a long time now Lex has had the
ability to get out of his crib, but never had the inclination.
Tonight, after we’d all been asleep for awhile, he suddenly
started wailing (he does this sometimes, he doesn’t sleep well
these days). Alan went in to check on him and found him in the
middle of the room, crying and saying “hurt self, hurt self.” I
think he somehow managed to fall out of his crib! Alan says
he’s not sure Lex was even awake. We shall see if he remembers
this trick in the morning. (Why was he in his crib, you ask?
Well, he seems to be regressing a bit and tends to request his
crib instead of his bed lately.)

On the
other front, Eve has started smiling a lot. Social smiling.
It’s adorable. I’ll try to get a picture sometime (I’m not so
good with the pictures lately). Today I also saw her kicking at
the toys on the bouncy seat. Kicking the toys makes the music
play. It’s hard to tell, but she seemed to be doing it
intentionally and was smiling when the music played.

Wild man!

Lex was such a wild man yesterday. Happy
as can be, but also happy to be asserting his independence,
ignoring me as much as possible, and running around like a
banshee. I don’t know if he’s getting too much
activity/stimulation these days or not enough or what, but he
drove me crazy! I was so happy when Alan came home :)

To his credit, Lex was an angel all morning
when we went grocery shopping. He does like grocery shopping,
and unloading and putting away the groceries. It was a big day
in the diaper department too. Eve moved up to size one diapers
and I bought Lex his first Pull-Ups. He has been fighting me on
the changing table lately, kicking, crying, resisting changes
whenever possible, etc. I decided now might be the time to get
serious about potty training… or else get some body armor to
protect me from those flailing legs! He is a strong boy! Now
that the weather is getting warmer we can loose the onsies and
teach him how to sit on the potty by himself. I don’t have a
solid plan for this just yet, but I’ll figure it out :) That’s
what parenting is all about, right?

Happy one month birthday to Eve and happy May to
all!!

So perfect

We have the cutest little family! Look at these
kids (I have kids!! Plural!) Aren’t they adorable? :) Right now
Eve is sleeping on my shoulder (after being awake all morning!)
and Alan and Lex are at storytime at the library. I’m going to
miss Alan when he goes back to work. So is Lex!

On a milestone (kinda) note, at ten days old Eve
has a belly button! Her umbilical cord nubby fell off this
morning, leaving sticky-outtie belly button that looks like a
smile :) Now we can give her a proper bath instead of the
sponge bathes that she hates so much.

The 25th!

Big due date (baby doesn’t seem to care!)
and my little Lex is 22 months old today. How long does one
celebrate month birthdays?? :) Here is a due date belly shot.
Let’s all hope a 41wk shot isn’t necessary! Baby feels so low
and uncomfortable… nothing like with Lex. Not sure I can take
eight more days! :)

PS. I’m adding a little movie of Lex
playing in the snow. Will be available in the sidebar
shortly.
