I took pictures off the camera today and found they were all of Eve! Guess that’s what happens when Lex spends all day in school.
Eve, all dolled up :)
She was sitting on her feet, playing with the trains, and I couldn't resist her adorable toes. The picture barely captures the total sweetness of her little pile of toes.
Love for Grandpa Tom
Eve likes to make movies with the camera. Every time I turn it on she asks if we can make a movie, however she seems to forget what that actually means, so movies of her lately start with her smiling and me reminding her that she has to do something if we make a movie :) Here she is, doing something.
Today we decided to try out a new beach. I actually told the kids about it a week or two ago because my friend and I were thinking of going, but those plans fell through and we didn’t make it. The kids have been talking about it ever since! Lex even made one of his train lines go there, even though he had never actually been! So this morning we packed up and headed to the pond.
Lex discovered the thrill of running into the water until you fall over. Always a favorite :)
This place has a full snack bar. We got a cookie sandwich to share. Yum!
Also today, I mentioned cleaning the mudroom and Lex politely declined but Eve was all over it. She got the shoes out and lined up all by herself, got the room about 80% swept, and brought all the shoes back in. Really helpful!
This afternoon Eve and I made granola bars. She loves squishing her hands in things. :)
Not a lot going on around here, just life. I was looking through the camera and realized there are a few things to blog about though. Instead of my usual multi-post format I think I’m just going to throw them all into one big post tonight. Hold on to your hats!
Water Park
The local science museum has a nice outdoor water park that opened this week. The kids can play in the water and learn about tides and animals and whatever. Mine kids just play. And look adorable in their swimming gear. :)
Someday I'll do a "through the years" compilation of this shot. I think I have five years of pictures of Lex playing with these fountains.
So adorable. Like she stepped out of a catalog.
He poses! I love it!(too bad I didn't do a better job rubbing in that sunscreen on his face)
A frog in the river. Just testing to see if my camera will take pictures that don't include my kids ;)
Birthday
Someone has a birthday tomorrow. Have you heard? He is SUPER excited about it! We realized awhile ago that he is the only 4yr old in his class, everyone else has had their birthday already. Finally his is near. He debated for awhile about having a party (outside of school) with his classmates and finally decided against it. Then he deliberated on what type of cupcakes to bring to school, eventually deciding on “moon rocks” (cookies from a kids cookbook I got him for Christmas). We were going to make them this afternoon, but he woke up this morning raring to go and insisted we make them before school. So we did. Luckily there are very few extras so I wasn’t snacking on them all day :)
Making cookies
Moon rocks have lots of sprinkles.
But the biggest news about his turning five, and I can’t believe I’m writing this, is that tonight he put on a t-shirt AND shorts!! For awhile now he has been saying he’ll wear shorts and t-shirts on the day after his birthday, meanwhile he has been sweating up a storm on these 80° days and soaking his sheets at night with his heavy flannel pjs. Tonight he is wearing summer pjs, no socks (also a big deal!) and sleeping on top of his sheets! It’s a total 180 for him. He also picked out shorts and a t-shirt for school tomorrow. Hopefully he’ll put them on tomorrow for an adorable birthday photo.
Today
Eve woke up very late today, almost 9am! She actually came into my bed around 5am and was so sweet I just pulled her into bed with me. But when I got up a bit later she kept sleeping, and sleeping, and sleeping! When she woke up we went outside to hang laundry and watch tree cutting trucks cut down two (tall, beautiful, healthy looking) trees. It was LOUD, but neat to see. Then our friends came over to play.
I wanted a picture of her watching, but she kept looking at the camera instead.(and that is cereal in her mouth, not a weird lump on her face)
Watching the show
Fun in the sand
This afternoon we went over to look at the cut tree stumps. In one of the books we have a boy counts the rings of a tree so I wanted to show the kids in real life. This one was 35yrs old.
Eve wanted a video of herself reading a Winnie the Pooh book, like we have of Lex from awhile ago. I propped the camera on the couch so I could tend to dinner.
Vegas
Yep, I said Vegas. As in Las Vegas! I think I’m going there this summer. (I say think because my flights are standby so you never know until you get there.) My girlfriends from college go every summer and every year they invite me and every year I say no. Pregnant, nursing, broke, etc. It’s always something. Lauren called me last weekend and said they booked their trip for July this year and won’t I please come. So I’m going! I’m feeling excited and terrified at the same time. It will be a blast, I’m sure! I haven’t seen these girls in years and I’ve never seen Vegas. We’ll have three days of sitting by the pool, reading magazines, drinking cold ones, partying at night, and living it up. Exciting, right? And terrifying! What am I going to do for three days by the pool? I certainly can’t drink and party like I could so many years ago. I have never been away from the kids for so long (5 days total, including travel) and I’ve never gotten on a plane and flown away from them. I know the safety statics and how all that jazz and I’m not scared of flying, but I’m a tiny bit scared of dying! My little ones need a mother! What if I come home to find that Alan and the kids did awesome without me?! Or come home to find things went not so well and all hopes of a third child vanished? Eek! I’m going to need extra drinks at the pool! Seriously though, I’m super excited.
Here are a few pics and a video from swimming yesterday. Eve loves running up the yellow stairs and down the slide, but when they turn on the fountains there’s a waterfall over the yellow stairs and she hates it! The water comes down pretty hard and I think it may hurt her head. I think she is very cute as she tries to make her way through it to get to the coveted slide at the end :)
Lex had lessons today but we got a call 20 minutes before they started saying that some kid got sick in the pool and they had to close the whole thing down for cleaning. Ugh! Lex, sweet boy, said “Oh well. I’m having fun at home anyway.” :)
Do you know what I miss most during the winters? Besides sun, of course. I miss being able to stop at the playground on a whim. Being able to kill 20 minutes (or an hour!) at a playground instead of driving around or going somewhere to eat. We went grocery shopping today and my un-napped, crazy energy, boy chose to ride in the cart the whole time. I had promised him a show after grocery shopping (a new DVD from the library), but by the time we got done shopping he was bouncing. Then I had a brilliant idea… the playground!!! It was 55° at 5:30pm and the sun was still shining. What a day! We stopped at a nearby playground and I ran them! They wanted to sit in the sandbox and I said no way! They climbed and slid, and swung, and we ran and ran. It was great!
Look at that happy face!
She is so strong! She did all of the big kid things today with minimal help from me!
I’m a little nervous to write this and jinx us, but Lex has now gone six nights in a row without wetting the bed! Could he possibly be done with diapers? He has been marking D on his calendar each morning that he wakes up with a dry diaper and Alan told him that when he gets four Ds in a row he can try sleeping with no diaper. This week that happened! And then two dry, diaper-free nights followed! Yesterday Alan promised Lex a trip to the playground today if he had another dry night. This morning Lex was dry but the weather outside was most certainly not. Somehow, in Lex’s mind, that reward trip to the playground morphed into a trip to the “ice cream store” (the village store) and then when Alan woke up the plan became lunch at Friendly’s with ice cream to follow. I suggested a trip to the science museum afterwards to burn off the ice cream! The boys went out and had a great time! Eve wanted to go, but Lex decided this was his special treat (which was fine because she really needed a nap anyway). She was sad to see them go. Here’s a little video. Sorry again for the sideways.
Eve watching the boys drive away. She decided she need to wear Lex's hat and mittens to wave goodbye :)
We had fun, somewhat, at home without them. I was pretty tired so we ended up cuddling in the big bed and taking a nap together. Morning sickness and exhaustion both hit this week and I’ve been happily napping with the kids each day. I love naptime! I woke up and exercised and Eve woke up an hour later in tears because I wasn’t in bed with her anymore. Oops! A few cuddles later she was fine.
Anyway, back to Lex… done with diapers? I’ll keep you posted! (and I’m sure I’m ruining it just by writing this!)
Alan brought in Eve’s spare carseat from his car yesterday and she has been having a blast playing in it. Doesn’t she look like such a big girl!?!? This was her baby car seat that she technically still fits in, but we moved her up to a different one in the primary car.
Sorry this is sideways. I thought I could rotate it, but now I can’t figure out how!
