Nice save!

Eve made a great while playing goalie at soccer practice this week.  Everyone cheered for her. The bast part though, is that she takes no credit for it.  As she tells the story, with great enthusiasm, “Nick kicked the ball right at my leg and it bounced off!!! Isn’t that so funny?!”.

The next day she drew a picture of the event at school.

Ice cream entrepreneurs

The kids went a little crazy with the card board boxes this weekend and one thing that came out of the chaos was an ice cream stand. They’re pretty excited about it. “We’re going to be rich!” they said. Sunday afternoon they had the box all decorated, the menu, the money box, and the plan. Missing just one thing… the ice cream! Silly kids. I told them I would buy some at the grocery store this morning.

After school they were a rockin’ team and got their stand all set up. By 3:10 they were out front awaiting the crowds. :) The crowds were slow to arrive, but eventually trickled in and they ended up with a handful of customers.

They are planning to be outside every afternoon this week. Lex even asked if I would buy more ice cream when they run out. He’s ambitious! (I think this is also, at least in part, a ploy to stock ice cream on a regular basis!)

Committed

I’ve been talking about painting the bathroom for awhile now.  I guess now I am committed!

Or maybe I should be committed!!

As with any home improvement project, this is turning out to be bigger than it should be, especially since it’s just a little room!

Ice cream!!

After school on Friday we invited a few friends out for ice cream and playground fun! It was a beautiful day and a wonderful time!

As we were getting ready to leave I commented, out loud but mainly to myself, that I’d have to stop and get some cash to buy ice cream. A few minutes later Lex was at my side with $7 in his hand asking if that would be enough. He treated us to ice cream. Isn’t he sweet?!

Photos from Franklin

We went to Franklin a few weeks ago.  Life in the country was nice, but it got busy again quickly when we returned home.  Hence my way-delayed post!  Here are a few photos at least.  As always, it’s beautiful out there!

"I want so show you something so pretty it makes my heart sing that spring is here," said Eve, asking that I join her outside. On the way she said, "The one is one thing!" When we arrived here, her intended destination, she proclaimed, "The shimmering, sparkling water is so beautiful!" She is so poetic. The photo doesn't do it justice.

Eve’s missing teeth

A few weeks ago the kids went to the dentist for their regular cleanings. Eve had no missing teeth and no wiggly teeth, but upon looking at her x-ray the dentist said her big teeth are “right there” and ready to come through at any time. We left with instructions to call him if big teeth poked through before little ones fell out.

Well, of course, they did! This past Sunday Eve said she thought maybe a new tooth had come in. Sure enough, she had a big tooth poking through behind her little ones!

I called the dentist and scheduled an appointment to have her four front teeth removed, something we’d discussed at the last appointment. It sounds scary, but I think it makes the most sense to get them out so the big teeth can grow in as straight as possible. Hopefully!

Today was the day. You know it’s urgent when they’re booking routine visits six months out, but manage to find time for you in two short days. Most mornings I’m dragging Eve out of bed at 7:00am and forcing breakfast into her before school. This morning, when she has no school and isn’t allowed breakfast, she’s wide awake at 6:00am! Of course. Alan took Lex to school and Eve and I headed to the dentist.

She was SO BRAVE!! She got shy and quiet when they called her, then stuck to me like glue for a few minutes in the dentist’s room, but she settled quickly and barely flinched when they took out those tiny teeth! She just had nitrous oxide and novicane, not Valium (like Lex had when he lost his first tooth to the dentist as well!) Since she was older and calmer they didn’t think the Valium was necessary. She was a champ through the whole process. Laughing and chatting. When we got in the car at the end, her mouth full of gauze, she started crying again. We cuddled for a few minutes, then headed home and cuddled on the couch for a bit, changing the gauze frequently. An hour later she said she was hungry so we got up and she’s been going ever since! She had pudding and a soft PB&J. We played outside, played a few board games, read some stories. She’s having quiet time now and I keep asking if she’s tired and wants a nap, but “No!” is all I hear.

Eve’s new smile! (sort of. the bottom half of her face is still pretty numb here!)

A mere three hours after dental surgery and this girl is up and at ’em already!

I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect for recovery. Lex was four and had Valium so he slept a lot of the afternoon after his procedure. I remember sleeping a lot after I had teeth pulled, but I know I had general anaesthesia for that procedure. I guess she didn’t have any drugs that require serious recovery. I’m glad for that! I love seeing her up and grinning so fast. I’ll post a picture later when things are a little more healed up, but there is no way four grown-up teeth are going to fit into the spot that opened up today. She’ll be lucky to get two teeth in that hole! I think both kids inherited my small mouth!

Alan and I were counting our teeth last night (normal couples do that, right?!) and he has 10 more teeth than I do!! Isn’t that funny! Anyway, back to Eve. She’s doing well and eager for the tooth fairy’s visit this evening!

Boston

We were planning a trip to Boston two weeks ago, at the beginning of April vacation. Unfortunately very bad things happened in Boston the day before, so we opted not to go. We mentally rescheduled for the end of the week instead, but the city was in lock-down then, so we again post-poned. Yesterday, we made it! We drove down Saturday morning, spent the day at the Museum of Science, and headed home that evening. Easy, peasy.

We parked on the roof of the garage, our preferred parking, so we could see the whole city.  We also tried to get into this observatory (some of us tried harder than others!) but the doors were locked.

IMG_8512This museum has everything.  From optical illusions (hence why we are all standing with one eye closed)…

IMG_8515to large engines. (Lex, counting cylinders)

IMG_8516From dinosaur bones…

IMG_8519to exposed escalator parts.  It’s a pretty cool place to be.

IMG_8526These science guys enjoyed our visit.

IMG_8522We saw an IMAX movie on the giant dome screen (Alan and I BOTH dozed off briefly!  Awesome parenting, eh?)

IMG_8529and sampled ice cream Dots.  Lame.

IMG_8530Last stop, of course, the gift shop!  Both kids brought their own money and made great choices for souvenirs.  Neither chose the glasses!  Lex bought a K’Nex roller coaster and Eve bought a butterfly snow globe and wire jewelled tree on a rock, exactly like Winona used to make so long ago! :)

IMG_8533Since it was Saturday and the traffic wasn’t bad, we headed north when the museum closed.  We stopped at Panera along the way for dinner.  We washed the kids up and put them in PJs and everyone was cuddled up and quiet for an audio book the whole way home.  Happy day!

Sunshine and soccer

Spring is finally here and with it.. SUNSHINE! My favorite. We had a picnic snack on the porch after school one day last week and the kids have been “practicing soccer” each afternoon. Eve even dug out her summer clothes.

We have daffodils blooming and the weather forecast for this week is full of sunshine as well. Whoo hoo!
