Quiet weekend, weird evening

We had another quiet, do-nothing weekend. The mornings were frigid, but both days ended up being warmish (high 40s/low 50s) and sunny. Despite that we did nothing. I felt guilty for not getting everyone out for a lovely fall hike or something, but alas, I’m lazy. And Lex is sick. Again. This time it’s low fever, low energy, and lots of snot. He also has a few weird red spots on his face that had me researching chicken pox, post vaccination, on Google. Best I can tell through self-diagnosis is that it’s not chicken pox since he doesn’t seem to be getting any more of them and they are all on his face, not his body. We shall see what the morning brings though.

Tonight Lex fell asleep on Alan’s lap at 5:30pm. I brought him upstairs and put him to bed. He woke up enough to use the bathroom first and ask why he was going to bed at 5:30. I told him he fell asleep on the couch so I thought he was ready for bed. He said, “Oh, ok. I am pretty tired.” and he fell asleep. Alan went to bed at 6:30 and Eve practically put herself to bed at 6:50. I don’t know if it’s the time change or sickness or just a general feeling of lethargy in the house this weekend. I had a few things to finish up downstairs but I really SHOULD have gone to bed with everyone else as I have eaten a day’s worth of points in about an hour. Ugh!

I hope everyone wakes up happy, healthy, and full of energy tomorrow!

Today I am thankful for kids in the kitchen

Making muffins

They don’t like to cook with me much these days so I was thrilled this morning when they both eagerly joined me in the kitchen to make Pineapple Sunshine Muffins. I haven’t done much baking lately (safer for me that way, sadly I’ve already eaten three muffins today!) but I am trying to replace their standard “cracker snack” with something more nutritious. If I can control myself, I think homemade muffins and granola bars would be a good substitute.

Thankfulness is…

Today I am thankful for the wonderful Internet. Though I can spend many, many hours whiling away the time, sometimes it does result in a cool new find or a great idea. Today’s idea is a daily “Today I’m thankful for…” post.

That said, I need to turn off the wonderful Internet and connect with my family for awhile. Quiet time is over.

Cocktails & Crafts – round 2

After a super fun Cocktails & Crafts party last month, we decided to do it again this month at my friend Elizabeth’s house. She made fancy cosmos (think Sex and the City, in the country, with a bunch of little ones running around!) and finger foods. The kids (and some moms!) decorated picture frames then ran off to play. The evening lasted to the late hour of 6:00pm when over half of the children were in tears and the moms, though throughly enjoying the party, decided to pack it up and head home. It’s funny how life changes with kids… but that’s for another post.

Now, a few pictures. Someday when my technology curse wears off and my bank account fattens up, I’m going to get a fancy camera. Hopefully in time to get some good pics of my future adorable grandchildren! Or maybe I should just do some reading and figure how to take fancy pictures with my little pink camera. It can probably be done.

A little milestone

There are lots of big developments going on around here. Both kids are rocking at their swimming lessons, growing stronger and more confident each time they get in the water. Lex has three wiggly teeth, one of them is super wiggly! Eve can write and spell “I love you mommy” all by herself :) But one little milestone occurred to me this week that made me a little sad. I can’t remember the last time one of them came into our bed at night for cuddles. They used to come in every night, at least one of them, sometimes both. Usually I’d pull them in to bed to snuggle. When I heard shuffling by my bedside I’d reach out my hand and rub their head first. A sweet touch secretly designed to clue my groggy self in as to who’s standing by my bed. A trick that lost it’s effectiveness towards the end as Eve’s hair grew in. Then I’d pull them in for snuggles or sigh and get up and put them back to bed (what was I thinking!) But now I can’t even remember the last time one of them showed up for midnight cuddles. Sigh. A sweet, sad little milestone.

Back in the water

Alan and I signed up for a family membership at the aquatic center. Alan has been going to the gym every morning before work, I make it there sometimes, and the kids just started swim lessons again! They were super excited! They are in the same group again, this time with one of Lex’s classmates that they both like. Good times. I’m going to try and swim laps twice a week while they’re in lessons, though today I managed to chat with several parents and barely even look at the chilly lap pool. Oh well, maybe Thursday! :)
