A tick!

Today I am thankful for attentive teachers and kind school nurses.

Eve went on a nature hike with her class today. Her teacher told me when they returned to the classroom Eve pulled her shirt up (she’s a classy girl!) and the teacher noticed a tick on her stomach! I guess she had her jacket unzipped during the hike and at one point she tripped and fell. The teacher thinks the tick probably hopped on right then. Eek! I spoke with the nurse after pickup and she said Eve was a top notch patient. Of course! The nurse had removed the tick and kept it in a bag to show me. She asked if I wanted to keep it (ick!) and I said no thanks. I did want to take a picture, but my camera was in the car :) The nurse had removed it and cleaned the area and applied anti-bacterial stuff and a band-aid. Eve was well taken care of. I’m thankful the teacher noticed and I’m thankful the nurse took care of it. I’m sure I would have noticed in the tub tonight, but I’m happy someone more qualified (and medically trained!) than I took care of it instead.

One fish, two fish

Today I am thankful for my little fishes. Twice a week swimming lessons are going well. I was worried (I tend to do that) because I thought they might be overwhelmed going two times a week, but so far so good! They LOVE swimming and are progressing very quickly. Lex gets braver every day and can now get himself easily around the current pool. It helps that he can touch the bottom a bit too, when he needs too. Eve works very hard in her class, trying to keep up with the bigger kids. It’s a little nerve wracking for me to watch sometimes because her teacher will see her part way across the pool and then turn to the next kid, leaving Eve to finish on her own. Sometimes I swear she’s going to give up and drown, but she always keeps going and makes it to the other side. She comes home tired those days!

Normally I swim with them but today I had a meeting so Alan and I did kid swap during lessons. Today, of course, I forgot my camera at home, but I made a few little videos with my phone. Nothing thrilling, just cute kids swimming. They make my heart happy.

A Pampered Crowd

I’ve had deep thoughts throughout the day about what I’m thankful for.  My warm home (after an NPR story on homelessness in VT) and my ability to buy groceries (after an annoying trip to the grocery store)… but tonight, while I’m high on party endorphines (and wine!)  I’m going to say today I’m thankful for my ability to draw a crowd!  I had 10 positive RSVPs and 15 people came tonight! It was a great time! I had such fun.

Sadly tomorrow I will NOT be thankful on the WW scale!

Today I am thankful for…

alan

This guy!

He works hard at work and takes care of his family. He did the research on the new appliances and the hard labor to install them all. He is a good man. A good father. A good husband. And a good friend. I am fortunate and thankful he chose spend his life with me.

Saturday morning

family

My beautiful, silly family surrounded my new appliances! (the broken microwave will be leaving soon, hopefully to be replaced by a snazzy cookbook shelf!)

Birthday weekend

I had a great birthday weekend! Friday night dinner with my grandparents, Saturday company with old friends, Sunday grocery shopping, kitchen remodeling, and a date with my little boy. What more could I ask for in a birthday weekend!?! I have to pick up the kids in a few minutes but I wanted to post a few quick pictures of our good times.

kate

The kids had fun playing with baby Kate. Lex spent a lot of time with her. Here he is moving the block just out of her way, making her giggle and scoot towards it.

happy girls

Happy girls! These two have a great time together! :)

swimming

We had cake after lunch then took the kids swimming to use up some chocolately energy!

princesses

Can't end the visit without some princess time.

Today I am thankful for my mother.

For without her, none of this would have been possible. I’d like to write a deep and moving post, but my brain ODed on chocolate cake and checked out about an hour ago. And I can’t find my camera. In short, I love you Mom. Thank you for brining me into this world and supporting me every step of the way.
