Success!

Our third try at movie night was a big success! Pick-your-own dinner, picnic on the floor, Mary Poppins (nothing scary there!), cuddles only the couch, success!

Part way through the movie I started thinking about making popcorn, but then Lex picked up a big bowl of sugar snap peas I had put out with the picnic and brought it back to the couch. We all cuddled and the kids ate the whole bowl of peas. I quietly tucked the popcorn idea away for another day.

Bye bye swing set…

Goodbye.

Goodbye swing set. You were loved very much and served us well. You will be missed.

It’s hard to see the baby things moving on. What happened to my babies? Suddenly they’ve been replaced with big kids! All my favorite baby stores and websites are no longer relevant, our baby products are slowing leaving the house… sigh. Let’s hope that new swing set gets here soon!!

March of Dimes walk

We did the March of Dimes “March for Babies” walk this morning! It was fun! I had gathered a small team and we raised about $700. Thanks all who donated! We had trouble keeping the team together for the walk since we all had kids and walked at different paces, but it was a fun morning anyway. Lex and Eve walked the entire three miles, with the assistance of water and snacks along the way.

Watching the clowns after the walk. The kids laughed hard at these silly people.

Movie night, take two… bust!

Yesterday I decided we could try movie night again. I thought it would be fun and I had a few ideas on how to make it smoother than the first time. Lex came home from school, we had snack and played outside… all was good until it was time to come in. MAJOR meltdown! Lex ended up kicking, screaming, blah! The whole thing lasted about 10 minutes, if that, but he lost movie night. I was bummed because I really wanted to do it, but they both had pretty bad manners all afternoon and then the fight… so that was that.

After Lex got calmed down and in the tub he asked if we could have movie night tonight instead. I told him that if he can keep it together and remember to use good manners all day, perhaps we could try again for Saturday night. That was an agreeable idea to him and then he decided that he needs a reminder. All on his own he decided to write himself a reminder on a Post-It note that he could keep in his pocket. I loved the idea! All his. After bath he asked for Post-It notes. I tried to talk him into a bigger piece of paper, but he insisted the smaller size was preferable, especially in a bright color. While I made dinner he made himself a reminder and tucked it into this pants for the morning.

tired lex

Look at those tired eyes! That was the real problem.

Once or twice today Alan and I have had to give him gentle reminders, such as “Lex, what’s in your pocket?” but other than that he has had a very good day. Especially considering he walked 3+ miles this morning!

I hope we all make it through the day because I’m looking forward to a picnic on the living room floor and Mary Poppins tonight!
