Friday folder

I love the Friday folder. :-)  This is a picture Eve drew of the little in their room.  I love that she drew them in bed (green smiley faces) and that she drew their comforters (princess on her bed).  Notice her name? She has developed an interest in cursive so I taught her how to write her name.

Wiggle wiggle

Eve has a loose tooth!  Her very first one.  She’s pretty excited about and and keeps telling me about how it feels.  Often starting with, “I don’t know if this is usual or not, but…” then onto her story.  She is an awesome child.  She also has four molars coming in all at once.  There’s a lot going on in that mouth of hers.

I wonder if that explains the fevers, headaches, and earaches from a few weekends ago…

Riding in style!

The big day finally arrived! Big day in this house anyway, probably no one else cares. For awhile now I’ve known that I had to move the kids, Lex primarily, out of the 5pt harness car seats and into standard booster seats. The big black seats we have were supposed to convert, but when I tried to use them with the shoulder belt I discovered they were damn near impossible to buckle in. There was no way the kids would be able to do it. So we sprung for new boosters, just like what we have in Alan’s car. The kids are pretty excited. They were getting too big for the 5pt harness, especially with winter coats on. When I pulled out the manual to make sure I converted the big black seats properly, I discovered that I should have switched Lex about 15lbs ago. I thought the 5pt harness was safest, but according to the manual he was too heavy for it. Glad we didn’t have an accident.

car seats

Happy riders! They like to put the arm rest down between the seats.

Now they are in boosters in both cars and pretty darn happy about it. We brought a friend home after school and I was able to fit three across in the back seat. Oh, the social opportunities we’ll have now!

This is just a sweet picture from after school today. Unrelated to car seats. :)

reading

This is what they like to do at the end of each school day. Grab a picture book from my 5th grade room and cuddle in the chair and read. Sometimes there is a friend with them. Sometimes the book is an iPad. Always they are cuddly and happy. Today Eve was reading “Boris Ate A Thesaurus” to Lex.

Mental relaxation

I have been totally stressing about my solo day on Friday. It’s my third and therefore I should be more relaxed about it, but for some reason I was really struggling to get my mind around a writing lesson. My mentor and I discussed the idea and it all sounded good, in concept, but I couldn’t quite put it into a plan.  Until this evening.

I was working on it and researching and stressing this evening while Alan was watching a Star Trek with Lex.  When the show was over I went upstairs to cuddle with Lex (our usual routine).  He was unusually still and calm, no coughing or fidgeting, and we snuggled in together.  It was so nice and peaceful and suddenly my lesson came to me!  Clear and fun and obvious.

When it was time to go I told Lex what had happened and thanked him for helping me relax.  He said, “OK, but I didn’t do it on purpose.”  I told him it didn’t matter, his peacefulness was exactly what I needed.  A little mental relaxation. I’m a lucky momma!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Today was a busy day, just like all the other days. I’m embarrassed to admit that I was up and showered and dressed and checking Facebook before I remembered it was my birthday. That’s just how old I am! Good thing FB reminded people to wish me a happy birthday, otherwise I might have forgotten completely! Kidding, of course, Alan and the kids had sweet birthday wishes for me when they got up.

I spent the day at UVEI, running errands on lunch break and afterwards, picking up the kids from daycare along the way. I got a little carrot cake from the grocery store, so we had a little birthday dessert. Alan was at a meeting late tonight, so no birthday dinner out. Instead he brought me home wine and delicious take out! So I had cake first, and dinner is ready as soon as Lex is in bed. :)

I got home to wonderful birthday cards and a present from a mother who can read my mind! She asked last week what I wanted and I said nothing (I’m never any help!). Today at UVEI I was admiring other people’s oversized bags and thinking that I really should put something like that on my Chirstmas list. I’m always lugging around books and notebooks and the ipad and lunch and and and… Guess what one of my presents was?! A beautiful, over-sized Vera Bradley tote!! Thanks Mom! I was admiring it aloud and Lex added sweetly, “Yes, it’s every woman’s dream.” His words and his tone and the comment in general made me laugh so hard.

Eve made me several beautiful cards today, but she got my age wrong on every one. She wrote 30 on her card this morning and I told her I was 37 now. She made two more cards, one at school and one at daycare, and put 38 on both of them! I think I’ll take the 30 back! :)
