So much for fun mommy

We had a mellow morning yesterday, but
when Lex woke up from his nap he was wired, like he woke up on
the crazy side of the bed or something. So when Jan came over I
decide to leave Eve with her and take Lex outside for awhile.
It was raining, but not very cold (I was fine in a t-shirt and
shorts), so I thought he’d have fun. Summer rain is supposed to
be a good time for kids right? So we played for awhile, dug in
the dirt, found blackberries growing in our backyard (and ate
some, of course!) and went back in after a half hour or so. He
had a blast. And, just my luck, he got sick from it! Not
terribly sick, but he’s sneezing and has a runny nose now.
Blah! So much for my plan to be a fun mommy and play in the
rain.

Completely unrelated, here’s a fun
fact for you. According to my friend (I have no source to cite
on this) 96% of parents think their child is advanced :) Good
to know, huh?

Roll over

Eve rolled over for us today! Lex was
reading her a story and over she went (see movie). She almost
rolled just before that, but Lex tackled her just before she
completed the roll. She was nice enough to repeat the event for
Alan at lunch time :)

There are two other movies in the side bar there, one of
her almost rolling and Lex tackling her, and the other after
the roll. Lex was reading her a book and I wanted her to roll
over again, instead she just got cranky and started crying. Lex
tries so hard to soothe and entertain her :)

Fun with food

We ate veggies from the garden this weekend!!
Just three green beans, but it’s a start. Here is Lex eating
his. He was very excited to be able to pick them and wash them
(they had dirt all over them). He was less excited about eating
them :)

Lex is a very picky eater.
There are only a few things he’ll eat and he rarely ever will
even try new things. The funny thing is that he loves to help
me make dinner. He gets very excited about making salad, to the
point that sometimes he opens the fridge and starts getting out
the veggies and says “wanna make a little salad now” But he
never eats the salad!! He was also quite happy to help me make
beans and rice on Friday night. I asked him if we should have
peas or broccoli with it and he picked broccoli… and then he
ate the broccoli!! I was shocked. He ate three whole
toddler-servings. It did have some grated cheddar on it, but
I’ve put that on other things that he refuses to touch and it
hasn’t helped before. So we were very quiet about it and just
kept giving him more until he decide he’d had enough. He still
didn’t touch the beans and rice (despite being thrilled to help
cook it) but I figured broccoli and milk was a good enough
dinner :)

Eve is also a picky eater in
her own way. She doesn’t get much choice in food, but she is
very particular about the ambiance. She prefers her meals in
quite, calm areas. Can’t say I blame her really, but it makes
it difficult when we are out and about. I was at a playgroup
today and we had to head home a bit early because she was
hungry but wouldn’t eat amid all the commotion. So we came home
to our own quiet living room and she enjoyed her meal.
:)

A lovely wedding weekend

We had a very long, but very fun weekend
in Delaware. We rented a van and drove down Thursday, picking
Joyce and my parents up along the way. Hung out with friends on
Friday and Saturday, saw Mark & Barbara get married, and
ate yummy wedding cake. Then we drove home on Sunday, getting
in at about 2:30am. A good time was had by all. Lex got to swim
three times in two days and came home tired and water logged.
Two days later we are still trying to get caught up on sleep.
Well worth it though :)

Here are the
vacation pics from my camera.

For Joyce

Joyce is checking my blog daily, despite
the fact that I’m with her every day this weekend!! So I’ll
post and tell her that it’s awesome getting drunk with her.
Even though she is cool and hip and I’m old and mommy-ish, it’s
awesome to party together :) And extra awesome that my parents
are so cool to babysit my babies until 2am.

And I love my friends! (and Mike’s little secret) It’s
awesome to get together with friends from forever ago and it
seems like just yesterday. That’s the sign of true friends. I’m
so happy to be together again. It’s a bummer that we only
manage to get together for weddings, but at the same time it’s
also so fortunate that we are all able to get together for
weddings!

Life is good.

Happy 4th of July!

We started the day with a beautiful, sunny
morning. Alan is home and we all went outside to mow the lawn,
move car seats, and just hang out. I love vacation! Now the
kids are both sleeping and we have a lot of packing to do!! So,
I decided to post a few pictures here :) Great logic, huh?
Procrastination is my specialty.

Also a few milestone updates… Though still not
ready for potty training, Lex has made a big step in the right
direction. Just in the past few days he has really become aware
of conditions in his diaper. Instead of fighting the diaper
changes, he now (usually) tells me has a poopy diaper and then
climbs up onto the changing table and waits for me to change
him. Today he even asked for Desitin , which he needed, and
after I put the Desitin and clean diaper on, he kept telling me
he had poop in his diaper. I imagine they feel similar —
squishy and not-quite-right. Anyway, TMI for most of you, I’m
sure, but a positive sign for me :)

Eve, on the other hand, has started laughing and
grabbing things. She likes her bibs and the dress she is
wearing today. She also likes to hold my hand or arm when I’m
changing her. It’s so sweet! I read recently that by 3 months
babies are starting to sit up on their own. Not stably and
consistently, but starting to. I realized that I never really
tried sitting Eve up, so I gave it a shot and she promptly spit
up everywhere :) Oh well. She also doesn’t get long stretches
of tummy-time because that too makes her spit up. I think we
need to hold off working her too hard until she gets better
control of that esophagus! She is oh so sweet though. :)

Lex’s first signature

You know those cards they have at the
grocery store checkout that you can buy to donate money to one
cause or another? Lex likes to play with them. Last week I
bought one and put his name on it while he “helped” by putting
lots of dots all over it. This week he took one, put in on the
credit card signing platform, grabbed the pen and wrote his
name (see picture). As he wrote he said L-E-X and then he
handed the card back to me. If you look closely you can kind of
see the letters in the scribbles. He also decorated this card
with some lines and dots too. He’s so smart. :)

Three months

Happy 3 months to Eve! She is such a
beautiful girl, smart and strong and very chatty. She talks and
giggles a little and sometimes even makes herself laugh,
telling jokes that only she can understand :) She is starting
to reach for things and trying to roll, but not quite there
yet. She has great head control and can do little baby push-ups
when she’s on her belly (which doesn’t last long because she
usually spits up a lot during tummy time). She sleeps through
the night about 80% of the time and takes nice long afternoon
naps. We are so very lucky to have her!
