Reading

Lex has started reading out loud again. That makes me happy. He has been shy about it for awhile now, even going so far as to tell me that he doesn’t read in school, he only looks at the pictures. I’m curious if he’s starting to notice that other kids his age can’t read. I was happy this morning to hear him reading to Eve again. They were supposed to be getting dressed, but reading is so adorable I grabbed the camera and let them keep going.

After school Lex got in the car and said, “I’m not very tired from school so I think I’ll read Eve a story on the way home today.” He grabbed a book (we ALWAYS have a stack of books in the car) and read to her the whole way home. Notice how he holds the book so she can see the pictures? He did that in the car too :) Such a sweet big brother.

Sunny Sunday

Just a quick post before I have to wake the kids up to take them to see “Click, Clack, Moo – Cows that type,” a live performance :) We are all very excited.

We went down to visit Jim and Julie and Molly yesterday, for the first time in what seems like forever! It was a beautiful day. The kids traveled really well and we had fun. We went to a playground and took advantage of the 50 degree weather and sunshine. Yay!!! Here are some pics and a fun video of the kids rolling down the hill.

On the bridge

Checking out a little stream running under the bridge. We then went for a short walk in the woods.

Big hill

The first hill he went down.

Snack time

After a long day at the playground little bodies need snacks.

Lex loves rolling down hills. I think it’s neat to see the different levels of understanding and confidence between them. Lex loves it, Eve is interested but doesn’t fully get it, Molly has no idea what they are talking about :)

A beautiful snow day

We have a snow day today. It’s been awhile since we had much snow so everyone was pretty excited to wake up and see a thick, heavy covering, with more still falling. In fact, it’s been so long that Eve said, “Mommy, where did all the grass go?” :) We Lex heard that school was canceled, he said, “I think schools are closed in Winter Wonderland!” We were outside by 8:30am. It would have been even earlier except we had to go with Alan to drop the cars off for service. Eve went over and invited Parrish out to play and the three of them played together, very happily, for more than two hours! It was great. After lunch Lex conked right out, though Eve is still bouncing around. I missed her “nap window” and may pay the price for that later tonight!

More Eve

She is so photogenic lately.

Umm... ?

I also want to apologize for my lack of substantial blog posts lately. Our TV computer died a few weeks ago so we’ve been using my laptop to watch Hulu. It works well, except that I really cherished my online time while Alan watched TV. Without that time I find myself with very little time online, which means not much in the way of blog posts. We had a great playdate today at the neighbor’s house, but Alan is waiting patiently to watch TV and it’s late, so I will try to post more tomorrow. Or sometime soon. Until then, here are a few pics and a silly video of Eve.

Storytime this evening –

Ear coloring?

Eve is so silly.  See Lex’s tree?  Trees are his new “thing.”  They were cute, but it ended (off camera) with a big line all the way down the newel post at the bottom of the stairs.  No more markers for these monkeys for awhile!

Sledding

Lex had no school today so we spent the morning with a classmate, sledding down the giant hill in front of her house. Giant, in my opinion, for a couple of 4 and 2 year olds. I found myself scrambling to find a store that still sells sleds this week. Apparently January is past the peak “shopping for sleds” season. I ended up with a pricey (-er than I was planning on buying) sled that’s designed for slightly older kids. It goes really fast and Lex loved it! We also brought along the LL Bean wooden sled. The kids all had a great time. Lex has done some sledding at daycare but otherwise it’s not something we do often. We probably should though.

Sledding - at the top of the hill... this is where he wanted to start from, but I wouldn't let him.

Sledding - coming down the hill

Coming down the hill... see that orange sled at the top? See why I didn't want him to start from there?!

Sledding - little girls

The little girls did some sledding on their slippery snowsuit butts. (they took a few rides on the slower sleds too)

Finally, a loop!!

Alan has been working hard on the basement and yesterday the kids got their first experience with a complete loop to run. Yay! We didn’t have the camera down there then, but this evening they were both bursting with annoying energy (not just energy, but that agitating kind that drives you crazy) so when Alan came home he brought them down to the basement for awhile. I sent the camera along. They both feel asleep easily after that! Alan takes pretty long videos (4 minutes) but it’s fun and gives you a nice tour of the basement too. Next week it should look even cooler!
