Someone has a fun Christmas card coming their way, eventually. Here’s a sneak peek…
Incredible Equations
Lex’s class does an activity they call Incredible Equations each morning. The kids have to think of equations that equal the date. For example, on December 5th, they could say 4+1. That’s an example most 1st graders would say. Lex prefers more complex equations, often involving multiplication and division. When I asked him if he came up with an equation today he said his was 10×2+4×2=28. (Alan is reading over my shoulder and told me there’s no need to type the parentheses because Lex knows about order of operations as of last week.)
I can’t wait for his parent teacher conference next week!
Biscuit
Eve read me two little Biscuit books tonight! She likes to show off her reading skills to Alan but I rarely get to see them. She told me she would have to use her brain for some of the words and “really think on them.” She is such a smarty! :)
Thanksgiving 2011
We spent another wonderful Thanksgiving with the family in Franklin. We drove down in a mushy snow mess, but that cleared up along the way and we ended up with sunshine and warm temps for our visit.

I tried all week to get a picture of this crazy tooth. Lex didn't want to show it so I had to take sly pictures.

Eve and I made a "thankful book" and had everyone write what they are thankful for. Eve is thankful for our neighbor's dog. :)

Eve wasn't much into basketball but she had a great time at the playground and bouncing on the picnic table, with Grandpa Tom safely by her side.

How do you know when it's time to leave the playground? Your child laying in the middle of the parking lot is a good clue.

We got to Skype with Joyce! Technology is awesome. We miss you Joyce!!! Wish you had been at the table with us instead, but this was the next best thing.

We spent a crazy long time throwing rocks and twigs and flowers into this culvert and watching them come out the other end. We were there so long the dogs got bored and went home without us.

Funny how things spark memories. While the kids were entertaining themselves with the culvert I started thinking about this barn and how the old owners used to light up this star every December. You could see it from miles around. I told the kids. They didn't seem impressed. I wonder if the new owners turn it on (probably not) and if you could even see it now with the amount of trees and growth in front of it (probably not).
I have a million things to do now. Lex had a classmate over this afternoon who did a great job of playing with my kids and keeping them entertained. He’s leaving in a few minutes so I’m back on duty :) I’m contemplating cooking dinner, for a change, but it probably won’t happen. I also want to a take advantage of a few online super sales this weekend, but that probably won’t happen either. Sigh. So much to do! :) Life is good.
Quotes from Lex’s friend
“Whoa! Tell me I’m not dreaming!!” he said when we pulled out the Legos.
“Lex, you are the smartest person I know, other than Mrs. Burriss (their teacher).” Lex’s reply, “Yeah.” :)
Winter share

Plus another pick-up next month! What have I gotten myself in for??!?
Thanksgiving muffins

How can you not be thankful for Thanksgiving muffins! Baked with love by a sweet four year old for whom I am also thankful!
Pony house
Volleyball

The kids are outside playing volleyball. So cute!
Two things
Right now, on this beautiful day, I am thankful for two things. 1) Strong legs that get me where I need to go, day in and day out, even if where I need to go is absolutely nowhere on the treadmill for a hour. 2) Friends who take time out of their lives to send me encouraging words. It’s good to hear that I’m not alone in this crazy thing we call life. Thank you.
