Perfect babies

It’s late and my laptop battery is almost
dead so this will be quick. I know it’s been a few days, so I’m
proactively avoiding nagging :) Seriously though, I took the
kids to Kohls today and bought them both cute holiday outfits.
Tomorrow we are going to have a family photo shoot and see if
we can get a good picture for a Christmas card. It’s about that
time again. When Lex was a baby I never felt tempted to buy him
Christmas clothes and at the store today I realized why. They
had one rack of slacks and sweaters for boys, all in red and
blue. But they had rack after rack after rack of holiday girls
clothes. So many cute things. I will even confess that I bought
her two dresses :) Yes, I did. If you’re all lucky I might post
a few preview pictures tomorrow. My dad is here doing some work
on the house and I’m going to get him to take a few of all four
of us together. Maybe we can actually get a nice family
picture. Ok, gotta hit post… battery dying….

Night

When I was young I used to have this weird
dream of things watching me sleep. I recall seeing figures in
the doorway but the shapes were distorted from the bright light
behind. I guess I’m a little slow, but it didn’t occur to me
until I had Lex that perhaps these weren’t scary aliens – just
my parents. We got in and check on the kids every night before
we go to bed. Sometimes multiple time because they are just so
cute. Sometimes we even take pictures of them!! And now, gotta
love the Internet, I can share the pictures with the world!

PS. You can all thank Lauren for
reminding me that it’s been 5 LONG days without a kid update :)
Glad people care enough to nag!

Two more things…

1) It’s been a LONG time since I’ve
updated photos.datdec.com, but finally there is some new stuff.
I was dreading the task, but since we lost a ton of photos from
this year, the job went relatively quick :/ Check it out: photos.datdec.com

2) I wanted to mention how mobile Eve is getting these
days. She can roll herself anywhere she wants to go and moves
backward relatively easily, and now she’s starting to use her
toes to scoot forward. As I type she is laying on the floor
playing with the balls that came with the dragon toy. She
reaches for them, they roll away, she rolls after them :) Or
she rolls to the desk to play with the handles. Yesterday she
rolled to the bookshelf in the living room and started taking
the books down. All of this is coinciding nicely with her
reduced spitting up. Hehehe… now she’s laying on her back,
clapping her hands and grinning. She’s so perfect! I’m going to
go play with her :)

Hey Jealousy

We have our first daycare baby starting next
month and she came over for a few hours yesterday as a practice
run. Practice for me, my kids, her, and her mommy. We all need
some practice! She came right at nap time, which was tough, but
good since that’s the hardest part of the day. I was expecting
her to be fussy (she’s a baby, after all) and Lex to be
difficult (like I said, nap time), but what I was not expecting
was Eve to be jealous. That’s right, jealous! We were all
sitting on the floor reading stories and baby started crying. I
picked her up and Eve immediately reached for me and started
being fussy. It was so funny. Baby cried a lot and Eve cried
and Lex ran free. I ended up nursing Eve to sleep, rocking baby
in her carseat, and Lex got no nap. Like I said, we all need
some practice! Eve only took about a half hour nap (usually she
sleeps for a few hours). When she woke up, baby’s mommy was
back and Eve was all smiles. She kept looking at baby and then
giving me big hugs. She’s so mellow, but I guess there is a
jealous streak in there. So funny.

More pictures

Nothing exciting, just playing with the
camera at dinner. My kids crack me up, so now you have to look
at them too!

An Eve
montage…

And a Lex
montage…

I moved some of Lex’s books because
the shelf was getting too crowded and I think that’s why he
hasn’t been reading as much lately. After my handiwork he
jumped right back into reading (proving my point) and with the
reading comes the fancy book placement. Tonight he made a “book
road” with the books he finished reading. See how it even goes
under a tunnel? Very clever boy.

Notice both vehicles have drivers
and the school bus driver is even in a wheelchair. He regularly
rearranges the school bus people so that the driver is in the
wheelchair. I’m not sure what his logic is behind that, but I’m
sure he’s got something in mind.

New Camera!!

Yay!! Alan let
me open my birthday present from my parents early. Yay for me
and yay for all of us! Thanks mommy!! Here are a few thank you
pictures and a little movie of Lex singing. I’ve been wanting
to get a video of this for awhile.

Eve is trying to crawl. She gets up on her hands
and knees, but hasn’t figured out the next
step.

Now relax. (on an unrelated note, I don’t think we’re going
to need bibs on her much longer.
yay!)

himself.

Look at all the goodies that came with the
camera!

Here is Lex singing Old McDonald
with his radio. “Ya ya yo,” he says :) He loves this radio
(again, thanks Mom!) and loves to sing along. The funny part is
that he sings much slower than the music plays, so he plays the
song over and over while he sings. Cracks me up. He does this
in the car a lot. Towards the end of the video he decides that
mommy, no daddy needs to fix his drum :) It’s a little hard to
understand him, but hopefully you can get most of
it.

Enunciate

Lex was an early talker and has always had
an impressive vocabulary for his age. He has been frustrating
me lately though because his enunciation has gone from
“acceptable for a toddler” to downright unintelligible. Maybe
it’s because I usually understand him so he doesn’t bother
trying anymore? I’ve been working with him on looking at people
when he talks to them (he prefers to look at anything but the
person he’s talking to) and using people’s names. Now I have to
start getting him to speak more clearly — like he used to!
It’s interesting to see him with other kids though. For a long
time he was ahead of the crowd, but now a lot of the kids are
speaking very clearly, using people’s names, saying please and
thank you, and sounding like little people. Suddenly my little
guy isn’t leading the way! It’s a shocker, I know. I’m not even
concerned with that so much as suddenly I can’t understand a
lot of what he says. :/
