1/3 of one year old. Quite an
accomplishment for one so young. As she lays there, late
tonight, dosing contently while nursing, face and arms all
covered with waffle marks from the blanket she has been
sleeping on for the last hour or so, I look at her and my heart
melts at the most beautiful site I have ever seen: the most
beautiful site I will ever see. Thank you Tessa, God, and the
Universe, for this ultimate joy.

Jumping
We go to this playgroup that has a big
bouncy tent and lots of gymnastics tumbling mats and balls and
stuff. It’s a great place for Lex to burn off energy. He
usually loves it. Here are two videos of him jumping in the
bouncy tent. I broke them up because I had to stop him from
bouncing on a little kid. No need to get that on video ;)

Naked baby
Neat numbers
I just noticed that Eve is 3yrs, 3mos, 3
days and Lex is 2yrs, 2mos today. That’s kind of
neat.
New baby
My friend Michelle had her baby yesterday!
Yay!! Dylan has a new baby sister — Caitlin Lee. She’s tiny,
6lbs 12oz, tinier than any of my babies :) She was also 2 weeks
early. I guess they fatten up more when they are in there three
weeks longer! Anyway, congrats to their happy family!
Blueberries for Sal
Remember that book? Good stuff.
We went blueberry picking on Sunday. Lex was in
such a mellow mood and Eve slept for most of the time. It was
really nice. We brought a big white bucket and two halloween
pumpkins to fill, then sent Lex on a mission to find the
blue-ist of blueberries. He did pretty good. My friend said
that early-season blueberries are great, but after what we
found I still hold to my belief that mid- to late-August is
really blueberry time :) But we got a lot of decent berries and
so I decided to try my hand at blueberry jam. Lex and I started
it this morning (washing, squishing, etc.) and I finished it
while he napped (boiling hot berries and canning). I have to
let it sit for 24 hours, so I’ll let you know tomorrow how it
came out.

Bored
So much for fun mommy
We had a mellow morning yesterday, but
when Lex woke up from his nap he was wired, like he woke up on
the crazy side of the bed or something. So when Jan came over I
decide to leave Eve with her and take Lex outside for awhile.
It was raining, but not very cold (I was fine in a t-shirt and
shorts), so I thought he’d have fun. Summer rain is supposed to
be a good time for kids right? So we played for awhile, dug in
the dirt, found blackberries growing in our backyard (and ate
some, of course!) and went back in after a half hour or so. He
had a blast. And, just my luck, he got sick from it! Not
terribly sick, but he’s sneezing and has a runny nose now.
Blah! So much for my plan to be a fun mommy and play in the
rain.
Completely unrelated, here’s a fun
fact for you. According to my friend (I have no source to cite
on this) 96% of parents think their child is advanced :) Good
to know, huh?
Roll over
Eve rolled over for us today! Lex was
reading her a story and over she went (see movie). She almost
rolled just before that, but Lex tackled her just before she
completed the roll. She was nice enough to repeat the event for
Alan at lunch time :)

There are two other movies in the side bar there, one of
her almost rolling and Lex tackling her, and the other after
the roll. Lex was reading her a book and I wanted her to roll
over again, instead she just got cranky and started crying. Lex
tries so hard to soothe and entertain her :)
Fun with food
We ate veggies from the garden this weekend!!
Just three green beans, but it’s a start. Here is Lex eating
his. He was very excited to be able to pick them and wash them
(they had dirt all over them). He was less excited about eating
them :)
Lex is a very picky eater.
There are only a few things he’ll eat and he rarely ever will
even try new things. The funny thing is that he loves to help
me make dinner. He gets very excited about making salad, to the
point that sometimes he opens the fridge and starts getting out
the veggies and says “wanna make a little salad now” But he
never eats the salad!! He was also quite happy to help me make
beans and rice on Friday night. I asked him if we should have
peas or broccoli with it and he picked broccoli… and then he
ate the broccoli!! I was shocked. He ate three whole
toddler-servings. It did have some grated cheddar on it, but
I’ve put that on other things that he refuses to touch and it
hasn’t helped before. So we were very quiet about it and just
kept giving him more until he decide he’d had enough. He still
didn’t touch the beans and rice (despite being thrilled to help
cook it) but I figured broccoli and milk was a good enough
dinner :)
Eve is also a picky eater in
her own way. She doesn’t get much choice in food, but she is
very particular about the ambiance. She prefers her meals in
quite, calm areas. Can’t say I blame her really, but it makes
it difficult when we are out and about. I was at a playgroup
today and we had to head home a bit early because she was
hungry but wouldn’t eat amid all the commotion. So we came home
to our own quiet living room and she enjoyed her meal.
:)
