Weekend update

We had a nice, busy, sick weekend this
weekend. Lex was sick, but we went to MA anyway. He spent most
of Saturday moaning and sniffling and clinging to me. I felt
very loved, but bad for him. We had fun anyway. On Sunday we
went out to lunch with a friend of Alan’s from high-school and
his wife and 16-month old son. I love watching Lex interact
with other babies. This boy was a little shy at first, but then
he opened right up to Lex. We put them in high chairs next to
each other. By the end of lunch he was feeding Lex cheerios and
bananas and offering to share his milk. It was very cute. The
parents were nice too :) At Alan’s parents house for dinner
they were both sick, and Alan and I were starting to feel sick,
so we had a very germy get-together.

Lex is now feeling much better and Alan and I are starting
to recover as well. I think we got sick (at least me anyway)
just because of the lack of sleep the whole time Lex was sick.
Fun, fun.

I dropped him off at daycare
this morning and I was a little worried because he’s been soooo
clingy to me all weekend. I was hoping he wouldn’t have trouble
readjusting to daycare. So we get there and the teacher takes
him out of my arms and he’s immediately looking around at all
the kids and trying to get down from her arms. He wouldn’t even
look at me long enough to say goodbye! He just wanted to get
down and play with the other babies. :)

Sick baby

Two days at daycare and we have a sick
baby on our hands. He has been a miserable mess all night. Very
congested, gassy, and generally unhappy. Poor baby. He’s been
nursing most of the night, so hopefully my healthy immune
system will help make him feel better.

PS. 10 months old today!

Lots of baby time today

I picked Lex up at 5:00pm
today and he was happy as can be. He crawled over, gave me a
big hug, and went right back to emptying the shelves of all of
the toys and books. I sat on the playroom floor and nursed him
and he was great. I think he had a good day.

Then we went to visit our friends Joanne and Des. She is
living in a very cute octogon-shaped house. Very small, but
very cute. Des and Lex played together, sharing teething
biscuts and lots of slobber. It was fun.

Tomorrow is another daycare day and then we are traveling
to MA this weekend. Poor Lex will be exhausted come Monday.
We’ll have to take a vacation some day.

First day away

Lex is in daycare right now.
As we speak. We dropped him off this morning and the owner
(Noreen) took him out of my arms and sat down at the table with
the other babies. Lex immediately reached for the Cheerios and
was a happy camper. They say the way to a man’s heart is
through his stomach and I think that holds true for babies as
well. At least this one. I had to leave for work, but Alan
stayed at the daycare for an hour or so. He sat at the table
and did some work. Lex didn’t even notice. Then he stopped by
work (to swap cars with me) and gave me an update on Lex. I
noticed :) My biggest worry was that official nap time is at
12:30pm, but Lex always has a morning nap as well. They babies
nap in the same room they play in, so I thought for sure Lex
would be a disaster by 12:30. Turns out all of the babies still
need morning naps, so although the official naptime is 12:30pm,
when Alan left around 9:30 (I think), he said all but one of
the babies was sleeping. One of the teachers rocked Lex to
sleep.

I can’t wait to pick him up this
afternoon. Daycare is definitely harder on the parents
:)

Bitty baby update

Things are going well with my baby these
days. He cut two new teeth (top) and he’s sleeping better these
days. We are starting him in daycare tomorrow (two days a
week), which will be good and bad. They have a completely
different eating and sleeping schedule then he is currently on,
so hopefully he adapts quickly. I’m really happy that the
daycare is just down the street from me (I get to bring him
there and pick him up) and I think he’ll really enjoy the other
kids. He’s on the verge of walking and I think a few days with
bigger kids will really get him going. I’m not sure if that
falls under the good or bad category!!

Daycare

Having lost our nanny to a high-falutent
daycare, we’ve begun the search for a daycare. I’m a little
nervous, but Lex loves other kids, so I think he’ll enjoy
himself. Today we went and visited two daycares. La Petite
Creche, where our nanny is now working, and Aurora daycare. At
both places we put Lex down and he immediately crawled over to
the other babies and toys and fit right in. We walked around
and talked with the owners and Lex didn’t even notice we were
gone. La Petite Creche was nice, but we both like the Aurora
daycare better. The Aurora daycare is in a huge, old Victorian
B&B; and very family-centric. It’s run by a couple with a
few kids. Lex was ever happy to watch the other kids and
immediately took to the toys and the teachers. If all goes well
we will probably start him there end of this week or maybe
next. Bring on the colds and viruses!!

I watched a scary movie at school today…

We are studying the nervous system now in
my A&P; class and tonight we watched a video on teenage
addiction. It was very scary. Then all of the women in my class
started sharing stories of kids doing all sorts of weird stuff
(huffing and asphyxiation are apparently the popular ones these
days) and it just made me scared for the future. What’s wrong
with people these days??

Playground!

The weather has been so nice
lately, so today we decided to go to the playground. I have
been looking forward to it for a long time now :) Lex laughed
in the baby swing, but held on pretty tight. Then we sent him
down all of the slides they had there – the baby slide, the big
slide, the corkscrew slide, and the bumpy slide. He liked the
bumpy one the best. :) We didn’t make it to the playground
until 4:30pm so it was starting to get chilly, but we had fun
anyway.

Sooo big

Lex is starting to pick up on
the baby signs. :) It’s pretty cool. He can do “big” pretty
well, and we’re working on “all gone”, “drink”, and “mommy”.
“Mommy” is open hand with thumb to cheek. He was doing it this
morning, but each time his had got to his face it started
opening and closing. I think he was confusing himself. He’s
cute when he looks at his hand like it’s doing something
completely out of his control. Then he laughs and claps. We
have fun :)

He has also started sleeping
with his butt in the air. It’s adorable. I want to get a
picture, but he doesn’t sleep as rock hard as he used to so
it’s harder to get pictures. If I turn on the light, he sits
right up and looks around.

My big alarm

Lex has been waking up more and more often
at night the past few weeks. We are up to 3 times a night
again. So Alan and I decided we need to get tough again. Last
night I put a heavy dark curtain over his window (thinking
maybe the cars or lights or earlier sunrise is waking him) and
I changed his diaper during the night (lately he’s been waking
up with a very wet diaper – time to buy the overnight variety).
Soo… we put him to bed at 8pm last night. His first wake-up
was 4:30 (lately it’s been 12:30 so we’re off to a good start
already!). I changed his diaper and put him back down. He
fussed a bit (11 minutes) but then fell asleep. He woke up
again at 5:30 acting very hungry so I brought him into the bed
to nurse. He nursed very well and we both fell asleep again. At
7:05am Alan says to me “Did you shut off the alarm?” which is
normally set for 6:30am. I say “no”… hmmm…. Lex, meanwhile,
continues to sleep in my arm. We checked the alarm and found
that it’s actually set for 6:30pm! I found that hysterical
because it hightlights how long its been since we actually woke
up to the alarm! Normally we set it at night and shut it off at
5:30 or 6:00am when we get up with Lex. So we overslept this
morning and I was late(ish) for work – but it was
fabulous!
