This evening I was working on perhaps the awfullest princess castle cake ever. The frosting didn’t come out right, for the second time! I didn’t have enough chocolate for the whole cake, but I didn’t have enough pink frosting either so I was mentally trying to figure out how to split it. The cupcakes didn’t come out of the pan well so the towers are crooked and lumpy. Etc.
Suddenly Lex came crashing in (he was in high gear all evening!) and said, “Wow Mom! That is an awesome cake!” He lifted my spirits right up!
A bit later Eve came in to “help,” but I wasn’t quite ready for her. While she waited she grabbed the princess cookbook that inspired the cake. Opening the book she said, “Mom, it doesn’t look anything like the picture.” Uh oh, I thought, scrambling for something to say. Luckily she followed it quickly with, “It looks so much better!” Whew!
I still think it looks pretty awful but both kids love it and really that’s all that matters.
It reminds me of years ago when we did a lot more drawing together and I was always so happy when they recognized my drawings. If I drew a bowl of cereal and they recognized it, life was good!
