Fastachios

On our nut-binge-grocery-trip the evening after Eve’s allergist appointment I grabbed a big bag of mini-Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups (YUM!!) to make cookies that I had been drooling over for many months. We made the cookies, ate too many, ate even more peanut butter cups, and made more cookies. When they were finally gone Lex was very sad and asked me to buy more at the store. I promised him I’d buy him a treat, but silently committed to NOT buy of those candies because I eat way too many of them. Put me in a room with chocolate and peanut butter and I loose all control. It’s really quite sad. Anyway, Eve and I picked up a big bag of pistachios at BJs instead and Lex, my darling Lex, was even more excited about them than the candy! He eats pistachios (and calls them fastachios) at every meal and every snack. Every. Single. One. Can a kid eat too many pistachios? I hope not! I have trouble resisting those too, but not as much trouble and I figure at least they are healthier than candy.

  1. “Fastachios” are yummy… but probably at the *bottom* of the good for you nuts list because of all of the salt they add. :( Moderation and hydration! I imagine he doesn’t have to worry about hypertension at his young age…

  2. does he have dyed red finger tips? they advertise as a low fat nut…relatively, i guess. what does eve think of peanut butter? for so long she thought it would make her sick, and now its the hot new thing.
    (from ma, not pa)

  3. And then there’s Grammy Lynn, who at times, reveals that she actually is a pistachio. It has been common knowledge that “nuts”, and nuts run in this family. Apparently it’s an evolution thing. And for Lauren you can get unsalted pistachios…..hooray, for Grammy Lynn, and all the others.

  4. I freakin’ love pistnachios!!! I get the roasted, unsalted, undyed pistnachios. They taste better to me.

As for how many he eats, I’ll suggestion looking at the nutritional content of pistachios, like how much protein (what kind), salt, fats (what kinds), etc they offer naturally and see if he’s missing any of that in him diet. It’s pretty common nutritional knowledge that when someone can’t get enough of something from their regular sources and find a source for it, they’ll tend to consume boat loads of it until they get caught up.

Of course, he could just love pistachios and, not having been able to have them for sooo long, is making up for lost pistachio time. LOL

In any case, as long as they’re clean of artificial crap and added stuff they don’t need, they probably won’t hurt him. I say let ‘im chow.

Also, makes it easy on aunties who don’t know what the heck to get him for Christmas.
