Week one

We are one week (and two days) into the whole school thing. So far we have a new wall of artwork, an improved drop-off. Today’s went like this: him saying “yeah, bye mom!” and me saying, “don’t I at least get a hug?” Today we also got our first fundraiser packet?!?! Really?!?! My son is 4yrs old and one week into school and they are asking him to go door-to-door to sell candy and wrapping paper. Hmm… The cover letter said this year we get two options, sell stuff or write a big check to the PTO. Ummm…. I’m going to take option 3 – do nothing! They don’t even say what we are raising funds for. Maybe everyone knows this but me? Welcome to school!

  1. Ya the fundraising thing is tough. Our PTA has two a year, but one is a fun fair/plant sale where the kids get to jump in a castle and dunk their teachers while their parents are stocking up their summer gardens. I think that’s much better than the door-to-door stuff!

  2. Fundraisers irk me to no end…I don’t even participate…I write a check for the amount I’d spend (with 5 kids…usually $10 each) and send it in made out right to the school…that way I don’t have to buy any dumb overpriced stuff and the money goes where it should. And when I didn’t have extra, I didn’t send in anything and got over the guilt pretty quick…(you’ll have to read my post I have coming up later this week on school stuff…think you’ll like it!)

  3. Oh shoot…I met to answer your question you left me on my blog…I don’t really do much…socially. I will go to a movie once in awhile with a friend, or go out with my husband, and sometimes we will go to another couple’s house or out to dinner, but that’s it. I did playgroups when my kids were younger, but got sick of them fast…for various reasons…one day I’ll write a post about that. I am not really that “social” of a person, I guess! And now that my kids are older, it is so much to juggle with the weekends and their plans! I turn a lot down and I never regret it…for me I like staying home and eating popcorn and watching a movie more than anything. Boring!
