Zerbert

There’s a word I never thought I’d have to
spell. Dictionary.com couldn’t even help me. Oh well. Lex gave
his first zerbert last night. He gave Alan a big hug and
zerberted his neck – twice! It was great. Alan called it a
“real blog moment,” so I figured I’d better make it
so.

  1. i’ll bite-what the heck is a zerbert? i
won’t bother looking it up, if you couldn’t find it in a
dictionary to spell it? inquiring minds want to
    know!
    g’ma mema

  2. Hey, I can leave a comment on my own blog.
Cool. Anyway, maybe I should have said a raspberry instead of a
zerbert? Or spelled it zurburt? You know, when you put your
lips to someones fleshy part and go “brrrrr”. You know, right?
    :)

  3. From what I remember, it is actually
spelled “zrbrt,” and it was Bill Cosby that named it… well
his character on The Cosby Show, Cliff Huxtable (’80’s
    vintage).

    Rudy, the youngest, was showing
off her spelling and trying to stump Dad by spelling
non-sensical words and came out with “zrbrt,” to which he
promptly responded by swooping her up and planting a big
raspberry (the familiar motor boat sound made when one presses
their lips to a surface and blows) on her tummy as she wiggled
    and giggled in hysterical laughter.

    That
is, to my knowledge, the origin of
    “zrbrt.”

Before that, I believe it was
called a raspberry, not to be confused with the bright red mark
left by sliding across a basketball court on your bare skin so
as to remove several layers of skin, but not actually draw
blood (this is also called a
    raspberry).

Anyway, I could be all wrong,
    but that’s what I
    remember.

    Love,
    Auntie
    Mandy
