{"id":8481,"date":"2012-08-13T19:47:53","date_gmt":"2012-08-14T00:47:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/?p=8481"},"modified":"2012-08-13T19:53:22","modified_gmt":"2012-08-14T00:53:22","slug":"my-new-maid-and-a-paper-train-railway-in-my-kitchen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/?p=8481","title":{"rendered":"A paper train railway in my kitchen and my new maid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I think I have the <del datetime=\"2012-08-14T00:18:03+00:00\">messiest<\/del> craftiest children ever!\u00a0 This is a good thing, I know, because their brains are active, but so are the scissors, tape, and scraps!<\/p>\n<p>They are currently working on a 3D paper railway, much like his <a title=\"Paper cars\" href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/?p=8308\">paper race cars<\/a> and paper airline. Lex likes to be in the pictures these days.  :)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Now they are working on trains.\u00a0 He made a few trains over the weekend and some tracks connected with metal fasteners.\u00a0 Today I found some empty Lipton tea boxes (I drink it by the GALLON!) and they both decided to use them for stations.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8484\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4963.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8484\" src=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4963-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"train station\" title=\"train station\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8484\" srcset=\"https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4963-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4963-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4963-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8484\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lex&#8217;s train station, complete with clock (on top) and ticket counter (inside). While she could use a large piece and tape it once, she much prefers lots of cutting, lots of pieces, and lots of tape.  Despite, or perhaps because of, my repeated requests to the contrary.  For her it&#8217;s more about the ongoing story as she constructs and less about the finished product.  In fact, she rarely ever finishes a project, they just continue until I make her stop!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>When it was time to clean up she switched games and announced, &#8220;Let&#8217;s pretend I&#8217;m your maid!&#8221;\u00a0 Um, ok!\u00a0 Turns out she is a very good maid!\u00a0 She cleaned up all the scraps (with marginal help from Lex), swept the entire kitchen\/dining room floor, and helped Lex clean up his mess in the living room.\u00a0 Then she wanted to vacuum!\u00a0 I told her it was dinner time and invited her to join us &#8220;since my daughter is at a sleep over party tonight and won&#8217;t be joining us for dinner.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 The game continued through dinner and afterwards she jumped up and headed for the vacuum cleaner!\u00a0 While Lex took a bath, Eve vacuumed the office and half of the living room!\u00a0 She did a pretty decent job of it too.\u00a0 The game ended when she wet her pants and I made her get in the bath. :)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8486\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4969.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8486\" src=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4969-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"swiffering\" title=\"swiffering\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8486\" srcset=\"https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4969-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4969-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4969-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8486\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">She swept with the broom and then she Swiffered!<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_8487\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4970.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8487\" src=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4970-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"dinner\" title=\"dinner\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8487\" srcset=\"https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4970-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4970-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4970-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8487\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One benefit of their extended crafty periods is it gives me time to make yummy dinners!  Tonight was spinach basil pasta with cheesy roasted tomatoes, salad, and cheesy garlic bread.  Much of it fresh from today&#8217;s CSA pick-up!  I like having the kids nearby while I&#8217;m in the kitchen.
