Birthday cookies are becoming a trend around <a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/?p=3628\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/?p=2531\">here<\/a>!  Today we made Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies, a modified version of a recipe we found on an Alton Brown DVD awhile ago.  They are delicious!!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/img_0303.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4181\" style=\"margin: 2px;\" title=\"cookies\" src=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/img_0303-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"cookies\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/img_0303-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/img_0303-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n2 sticks unsalted butter, melted<br \/>\n2 1\/4 cups bread flour<br \/>\n1 tsp kosher salt<br \/>\n1 tsp baking soda<br \/>\n1\/4 cup sugar<br \/>\n1 1\/4 cups packed brown sugar<br \/>\n1 egg<br \/>\n1 egg yolks<br \/>\n2 Tbsp milk<br \/>\n1 1\/2 tsp vanilla extract<br \/>\n2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips <em>(I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingarthurflour.com\/shop\/items\/peters-burgundy-semisweet-chocolate-chunks-16-oz\">KAF&#8217;s Burgundy Semisweet Chocolate Chunks<\/a> with a few Nestle chips thrown in because I didn&#8217;t have enough chunks.)<\/em><br \/>\n3\/4 cups chopped pecans <em>(optional)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions<\/strong><br \/>\nPreheat oven to 375\u00b0<br \/>\nMelt butter.<br \/>\nSift together flour, salt, baking soda.<br \/>\nPour melted butter into mixer.  Cream butter and sugars on medium.  Add eggs, milk, and vanilla.  Mix until combined. Slowly add flour mixture until combined.  Add chips and nuts.<br \/>\nChill dough.<br \/>\nScoop onto parchment paper lined cookie sheet.  Bake for 14 minutes or until golden brown.  Remove cookies from pan immediately.<em> (slide parchment paper right off the pan onto cooling racks and allow cookies to firm up a bit before moving them from the parchment paper)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Yield: 3 dozen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I actually doubled this recipe and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingarthurflour.com\/blog\/2009\/11\/28\/freeze-time-savers-for-the-holidays\/\">froze two dozen<\/a> for quick and easy baking later.
