{"id":17969,"date":"2020-06-16T19:19:54","date_gmt":"2020-06-17T00:19:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/?p=17969"},"modified":"2020-06-16T19:20:28","modified_gmt":"2020-06-17T00:20:28","slug":"reading-and-gardening-and-more-from-the-camera-roll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/?p=17969","title":{"rendered":"Gardening and baking and parading, oh my!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>School&#8217;s out for summer!\u00a0 School&#8217;s out for&#8230; well, just for summer.\u00a0 It will, hopefully, restart again in the fall!\u00a0 We shall see.\u00a0 It&#8217;s all pretty up in the air! I&#8217;m on the planning committee for reopening and we are working on several different plans, with the expectation that none will be fully correct.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an exciting time to be alive, I suppose.\u00a0 Or exhausting. Depending on the hour.<\/p>\n<p>This past weekend I took a little break from the computer and spent a fair amount of time outside.\u00a0 I cleaned the entire porch, including washing (with a cloth!) the walls and ceiling and sweeping away all the cobwebs and gunk.\u00a0 I also, with Eve&#8217;s help, made the garden out front!\u00a0 We half-assed <a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/?p=17865\">planted hostas<\/a> a few <del>weeks<\/del>\u00a0months ago, and I&#8217;ve been waiting on the garden edging I ordered ever since.\u00a0 Finally it arrived and I felt motivated and, voila, a garden!!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17968\" style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512498403391481392435955343.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17968\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-17968\" src=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512498403391481392435955343-375x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512498403391481392435955343-375x500.jpg 375w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512498403391481392435955343-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512498403391481392435955343-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17968\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">My lovely garden with hostas and Morning Glories (hopefully!)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>That same day I saw a neighbor friend posted pictures of her yard sale.\u00a0 The first thing that jumped out at me was a bread machine.\u00a0 Mine broke awhile ago and life has been busy anyway, but this one was brand new and $2!!\u00a0 I immediately asked her to hold it for me, and I dragged Eve and the dog over to pick it up.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17963\" style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512469316606412706233140296.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17963\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-17963\" src=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512469316606412706233140296-375x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512469316606412706233140296-375x500.jpg 375w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512469316606412706233140296-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512469316606412706233140296-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17963\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Not the best picture, but the bread was delicious!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>That was all weekend stuff.\u00a0 On Friday, before the weekend, we had a parade celebration for two retiring teachers.\u00a0 My lunch crowd met for breakfast at a park beforehand.\u00a0 We had take out breakfast that wasn&#8217;t good, shivered in the morning breeze, and relished every second we were seeing each other in person!\u00a0 Then we headed to the rendezvous place and met up with all the other teachers (and some retired teachers and district teachers and others who wanted to celebrate). We decorated our cars and formed a long car parade that drove past the school, then around behind the school, and then right up to the front step where we took turns handing our beloved retiring teachers cards and flowers and gifts.\u00a0 The principal took pictutres, and the PE teacher set up some cranking music on her sound system, and the two retiring teachers were blown away!\u00a0 Most of us parked in the lot afterwards, and when the parade was over we all sang the DBS song.\u00a0 It was not pretty, but it was amazing!\u00a0 There were some tears shed. Many tears shed.\u00a0 Then a few of us drove to their homes and decorated their lawns.\u00a0 It was a fun and busy day.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17965\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512454558353188710214090718.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17965\" class=\"wp-image-17965 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512454558353188710214090718-e1592353125393-500x284.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"284\" srcset=\"https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512454558353188710214090718-e1592353125393-500x284.jpg 500w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512454558353188710214090718-e1592353125393-768x435.jpg 768w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-15923512454558353188710214090718-e1592353125393-1024x581.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17965\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">We gathered for a picture before the parade rolled out!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Then we weekend happened.\u00a0 See above.<\/p>\n<p>Then, on Monday, my bucket was so filled!!\u00a0 It was our last day of school, teacher in-service, and I was going to check in all fo the books and Chromebooks that had been returned, shelve the books, and *maybe* clean the Chromebooks.\u00a0 Guess what?!\u00a0 Four AMAZING co-workers offered to help!\u00a0 I said thank you, but it&#8217;s going to be hot and sweaty (broken AC in the library) and dirty, but they said, &#8220;that&#8217;s ok&#8221; and they came anyway!!\u00a0 Two had done a lot of the collecting of Chomebooks when we closed back in March and had gotten first hand experience with what a PITA the carts are, and the other two didn&#8217;t have a lot to do on the final day, so they all helped me!!\u00a0 We got all of the books shelved, all of the computers checked in and CLEANED, and everything stored away.\u00a0 My library has never looked so &#8220;done&#8221; at the end of a year.\u00a0 We also ordered delivery for lunch and sat at the picnic tables in the sunshine.\u00a0 I even got some time to just &#8220;be&#8221; in the space, look around, see what other things need doing, and AND went home at a reasonable time feeling satisfied instead of stressed.\u00a0 It was the best final day ever!<\/p>\n<p>Now begins summer vacation.\u00a0 We started it with a trip to the dentist and a referral to a dental surgeon for BOTH kids.\u00a0 :\/\u00a0 But Eve got kuddos for how well she&#8217;s been brushing her teeth, so that was good news.\u00a0 And no cavities for either of them!<\/p>\n<p>We have another week at home to chill (or sweat, as the temps are supposed to be in the 90s!) then we&#8217;re off to Franklin where we will definitely sweat and we will relax and we will love every minute of it!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17967\" style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-1592351244390608021420926546583.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17967\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-17967\" src=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-1592351244390608021420926546583-375x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-1592351244390608021420926546583-375x500.jpg 375w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-1592351244390608021420926546583-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wp-1592351244390608021420926546583-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17967\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I gave my preschool neighbor two lawn rakes I found in the garage. My kids have certainly outgrown them by now!
