{"id":1420,"date":"2009-11-04T16:00:42","date_gmt":"2009-11-04T20:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/?p=1420"},"modified":"2009-11-04T16:13:23","modified_gmt":"2009-11-04T20:13:23","slug":"peanuts-peanuts-everywhere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/?p=1420","title":{"rendered":"Peanuts, peanuts everywhere&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1421\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_0519.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1421\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1421\" title=\"Me &amp; Eve\" src=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_0519-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Me &amp; Eve (and doggie)\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1421\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Me &amp; Eve (and doggie)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8230; and not an ounce will kill her!!\u00a0 Yay!\u00a0 I&#8217;m excited.\u00a0 Can you tell?\u00a0 You should be too!\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think Eve really understands the significance of this morning&#8217;s appointment (and by appointment I mean three hours watching TV and eating peanut butter crackers on the floor of the doctor&#8217;s office.)\u00a0 Everyone around her is excited too, for personal reasons.\u00a0 Mine include, in no particular order, peanut butter cookies for Christmas, no more epi-pens, and no more worrying about Eve going into anaphylactic shock (which, to be honest, Alan and I never fully believed to be a problem in the first place&#8230; so I&#8217;ll add no more guilt about doubting her medical condition to the list of things to be happy about!)\u00a0 Yay!\u00a0 That&#8217;s all I can say.\u00a0 Yay!<\/p>\n<p>I went in this morning at 9am with Eve and an empty belly.\u00a0 I was told she could have no food before the appointment, just clear liquids.\u00a0 She was\u00a0 a champ and didn&#8217;t complain at all.\u00a0 She did see me packing the Saltine crackers though and asked, frequently, if it was time yet for her to eat them :)\u00a0 We got to the doctor&#8217;s office and they did the skin test, like last year, but this time she had no reaction!\u00a0 After 20 minutes the doctor came in and said let&#8217;s do the food challenge!\u00a0 I&#8217;m always up for a food challenge!\u00a0 He took the peanut butter we brought (yummy, yummy Jif!) and the Saltines and went away somewhere to prepare them.\u00a0 He started her with &#8220;a microscopic amount&#8221; on his finger, then after she had no reaction to that in 15 minutes they started bringing in crackers with increasing amounts of peanut butter.\u00a0 Eve caught on quickly that when the timer outside the door started beeping a nurse brought in another peanut butter cracker.\u00a0 She was very excited each time.\u00a0 In between food deliveries we read stories and watched DVDs on the hospital&#8217;s mini-DVD player.\u00a0 That was handy.\u00a0 Eve excitedly paused the DVD each time she heard the timer go off.\u00a0 I think she likes PB too :)\u00a0 The doctor was pleased to hear that and said it was a good indicator that her body is handling it well.\u00a0 I guess if the kid doesn&#8217;t like it they are more wary that perhaps the kid&#8217;s body is trying to protect itself.\u00a0 Anyway, she couldn&#8217;t get enough&#8230; I wonder where she gets that from? :)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1422\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_0520.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1422\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1422\" title=\"Skin test\" src=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_0520-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"Skin test. I think we&#39;ll do Panera for dinner instead.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Two hours and half a sleeve of crackers later the doctor told us that Eve is good to go.\u00a0 He said feed her nuts, as much as she wants, don&#8217;t be shy about it.\u00a0 He also said there&#8217;s no need for a follow up visit or annual check-ups or anything.\u00a0 And no increased risk that the allergy will return.\u00a0 Basically an &#8220;adios, nice to know ya&#8221;\u00a0 goodbye.\u00a0 :)<\/p>\n<p>It feels like some weird little medical science experiment.\u00a0 We learned a lot, paid a lot, and now we are back to life as usual.\u00a0 No more epi-pens, no more inhalers (wasn&#8217;t helping the cough)&#8230; just plain old life as it should be :)\u00a0 Yay!<\/p>\n<h6><em>(There&#8217;s just one teeny tiny downside to this&#8230; I think keeping peanut butter in the house will NOT be good for my Weight Watchers efforts.\u00a0 I LOVE peanut butter&#8230; have I mentioned this&#8230; peanut butter sandwiches, peanut butter cookies&#8230;. yummmm&#8230;..)<\/em><\/h6>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1427\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><em><em><a href=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_2348.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1427\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1427\" title=\"Last June\" src=\"http:\/\/familyblog.datdec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_2348-500x281.jpg\" alt=\"Just for fun, here's Eve at the allergist last June (2008).
