House update

Today was an exciting visit to the new house! Notice anything different?! :)

Walls!

We ran into a friend and his son, who is Eve’s friend, on the way over and they came along for the tour. I was surprised to see the green sheet rock, but he told me its a moisture resistant version. That makes sense.

Guess what’s in the garage?!

A solar panel power thingy! (very technical, I know!)

And a garage door! Whoo hoo!

We scheduled the closing date today. Mid-October. I can’t wait!!!

We also scheduled a tentative closing date for our current house. The inspection went well the other day and we are moving forward with the sale. It has been a little more turbulent of a process than the new house has, but I know we’ll get there and everything will work out well in the end. And, believe it or not, the end is near!

Doktor Kaboom!

We went to a really funny science/comedy show tonight, staring Doktor Kaboom, “an over-the-top German physicist with a passion for science that knows no bounds.” It was informative and hilarious!

They said no photography, but he had kid volunteers come up and he said of course parents of those kids are welcome to take pictures. After a particularly funny first volunteer, Eve quickly raised her hand when he asked for another kid to come up on stage, and I pulled out the camera!

Middle School Spring Concert

I never imagined I would be spending as much time watching my children perform as I have been this spring!  Concerts and plays and spelling bees and plays, oh my!

Lex had his spring concert this week.  The band was great and I always love watching him on percussion.  The middle school has a fun jazz band too and Lex decided he would join that next year.

Spelling Bee

This young lady came home with a Spelling Bee qualification a few weeks (months?) ago.  I was surprised that she had taken the pretest and pleased she qualified.  She was nervous and proud of herself.  She did a little practicing off and on over the next few weeks, and today was the big day!

Spelling “climbed”

Spelling “dimensions”

She made it to the top five!  She was one of two remaining fourth graders and she went out with a third grader.  The Spelling Bee ended with the top two spellers (they were the top two for the past three years!) going back and forth for a few rounds and then the winner finally emerged – victorious for the third year in a row!!  She is a friend of Eve’s and Eve was proud of her, although she later told me, “Mom, next year it’s mine!!!”   :)

Poetry Slam

Lex worked really hard on a poem for his ELA class and today everyone had to read them out loud at a poetry slam. We were all wondering how it would go.

Amazing!! I am so proud of him! His teacher sent me this video before the school day was even over! She said, “I just had to take a moment to share that Lex brought the house down today with his poem. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Well done!!” I think she was proud of him too. <3

Skiing – take 2

On my mother’s brilliant advice, I offered Eve the chance to go skiing today and get caught up on the lesson she missed on Thursday. She thought for a moment then decided it was a great idea. She also told me she was really embarrassed that she fell and didn’t noticed that everyone else was falling too! We decided to invite the boys and after a little convincing for the younger one, we all headed off to the slopes on this sunny 18° day.

Smiles all around! (Alan was still getting his gear on)

Eve was eager to “teach” Lex all about skiing. That made me laugh.

Lex lasted for a little while, but didn’t love it. He wasn’t thrilled with the out of control feeling, and one time Alan caught him at the bottom of the hill, but they both fell down together since Alan was also on skis. Lex said he hurt his head in that tumble. He did a few trips down, but then decided he was done with skiing and went to sit on the bench and watch the lift go around. Eve, on the other hand, LOVED it! She was up and down and up and down and at the moment is better than anyone else in her lesson group! Assuming none of them went skiing this weekend!:)

Alan in the black and Eve right behind him.

I hope we can get Lex back on skis again someday, but for now I’m just thrilled that I won’t have to fight with Eve about ski lessons for the next four weeks! Hallelujah and thank you mom!
